At the end of August, we had the opportunity to attend the regular meeting of the People's Committee of Chieng Khoong commune. The atmosphere was completely different from the usual administrative meetings, the Chairman of the People's Committee directly dialogued with 50 Party cell secretaries and village chiefs to discuss and resolve urgent issues at the grassroots level. From the issue of the bridge and the village road being affected after the flood at the end of July, to the supply of domestic water in the highlands, or the consumption of longan..., the suggestions and concerns of the people were listened to, analyzed and solutions were sought on the spot. This approach creates consensus, promotes collective intelligence, and turns the government's decisions into practical actions in each village and household.
Mr. Nguyen Van Dong, Chairman of the Commune People's Committee, shared: From the meetings, urgent matters will be prioritized by the commune, especially urgent matters, additional funding; clearly assigning people, tasks, and deadlines. When the people agree, all policies will be implemented more quickly and effectively.
Right after the meeting, we went with the commune officials to Hong Nam village, one of the bright spots in economic development. Longan is identified as the main crop of the village. However, instead of planting on a large scale like many other places, 110 households in the village focus on taking care of longan to produce early ripe fruit, reducing the pressure on consumption of main-season fruit, creating a competitive advantage in the market. Currently, the village has 60 hectares of early ripening longan, with an average yield of 8.5 tons/ha, total income of nearly 18 billion VND/year, with an average of over 160 million VND per household.
Mr. Dao Manh Hong, Party cell secretary and head of Hong Nam village, said: In addition to building an early-ripening longan material area, the village has also established a longan processing craft village, with more than 50 households participating in longan production, consuming over 3,000 tons of fresh fruit each year. The establishment of the craft village has created more jobs, increased income for local people and helped build brands, expand consumption markets, gradually approach demanding domestic and foreign markets, and increase the value of longan products.
Not only Hong Nam, many villages in the commune take advantage of the advantages and choose to develop diverse business models, such as the green-skin grapefruit growing model of Bao Minh Cooperative; growing V6 oranges in Ta Hay and Bo Chay villages; raising cows in barns in Cang village; Tam Dung Cooperative expanding sweet corn cultivation; Doan Ket Cooperative, Hai Son village developing commercial chicken farming... Up to now, the whole commune has nearly 1,200 hectares of crops; of which, longan accounts for more than 900 hectares, with a yield of 8-9 tons/ha. In particular, the commune has established 2 longan processing villages, with more than 100 households participating, contributing to solving output, maintaining the brand "Song Ma longan"...
In addition, Chieng Khoong is also a leading commune in digital transformation, with 100% of officials using electronic documents, online meetings, handling administrative procedures and cashless payments. People submitting applications online and receiving results via Zalo has become familiar.
Entering a new phase, with a wider development space, Chieng Khoong commune still faces difficulties, some targets have not been completed; poverty reduction is not sustainable, there are still cases of re-poverty, new poor households arise; there are development differences between regions and ethnic groups; infrastructure has been invested but has not met development requirements...
During the 2025-2030 term, the Commune Party Committee aims to build a clean Party and political system, maintain national defense and security; develop high-tech agriculture, create at least 2 OCOP products; fruit tree area of nearly 1,900 hectares, output reaching 20 thousand tons/year; trained labor rate reaching 75%; average income per capita reaching 40 million VND/year; by 2030, the commune will have no more poor households according to multidimensional standards; 5 villages will meet new rural standards; 100% of administrative procedures will be digitized, and public services will be online throughout.
The Party Committee of the commune directs the focus on synchronous development of economic sectors, encouraging enterprises and cooperatives to develop in a modern and effective direction. Improve the investment and business environment; promote internal resources, attract and effectively use external resources. At the same time, focus on building a clean, strong, streamlined, effective and efficient political system; link economic and social development with strengthening national defense and security; expand and improve the effectiveness of foreign affairs activities.
With the spirit of solidarity, innovation, and awakening the people's strength, Chieng Khoong today is changing its appearance; spacious houses, fruit-laden gardens, and increasingly improved material and spiritual life are proving the right direction of the border commune for sustainable development and happiness of the people.
