The 10th grade Literature exam in Hanoi discusses "the light inside each person"

Presenting their thoughts on "the light within each person", many candidates explained that it is the belief and aspiration that each individual pursues. Some candidates also said that the light is the good qualities and personalities that people need to cherish and preserve.

On June 9, candidates in Hanoi continued to conquer the specialized subject exam in the 10th grade entrance exam.

These candidates have applied to 4 schools: Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, Nguyen Hue High School for the Gifted, Chu Van An High School for the Gifted and Son Tay High School for the Gifted.

At the Chu Van An High School for the Gifted exam site, many candidates commented that this year's Literature exam has been innovated. Students who have good problem-solving skills and literary appreciation skills will not have too much difficulty in completing the test.

After 150 minutes of hard work on the test, candidate Nguyen Tran Phuong Thao (student of Den Lu Secondary School, Hoang Mai District) shared: "This year's Literature exam for the 10th grade specialized class was good in both the social and literary discussion sections. The questions in the test are not difficult to understand, but we need to read the requirements and instructions of the test carefully and pay attention to the words and details mentioned."

According to Phuong Thao, if the social essay section requires students to know a lot about real-life experiences, the literary essay section requires the writer to have a deep understanding and grasp of the nature of poetry.

In the social argumentation section, the topic quotes two parts of content revolving around the image of "light". From these suggestions, candidates must present their thoughts and express their views on the image of light inside each person.

Candidate Nhat Minh (student of Tay Son Secondary School, Hai Ba Trung District) expressed regret about his social essay.

"In the exam, I explained that the light inside each person is the path that illuminates aspirations and dreams, pushing us forward. But after submitting my essay, I suddenly thought that light can have many other meanings, so I feel a bit regretful about my essay," Nhat Minh confided.

As for contestant Ly Ngoc Anh Thu (student of Chu Van An Secondary School), "inner light" is the belief that each person has created and sometimes people have to sacrifice to pursue that light.

"I cited the example of writer Nguyen Ngoc Ky, a man who, although paralyzed in both arms, still tried to overcome his fate. Training his legs instead of his hands to be able to hold a pen, he became an excellent writer and teacher. Perhaps, the light from his faith urged him to do that and he himself also shone light, lighting up hope for many others," Anh Thu revealed part of her essay.

Entering the entrance exam for the 10th grade, Anh Thu kept herself calm and relaxed. As soon as she started doing the social argumentation section, she quickly developed the main arguments and listed appropriate arguments to prove her point of view.

"This year's specialized Literature exam is very interesting. Besides the meaningful content mentioned in the social discussion section, the literary discussion section this time also has innovations. Instead of candidates being free to choose works to prove their opinions in the literary discussion section, the exam questions have given us works for us to focus on analyzing," Anh Thu added.

In the literary essay section, from the two verses " The loves of my heart, I wrap/ In the leaves of poetry just picked from life " in the poem "Like Autumn Green Rice" by Che Lan Vien, candidates need to present their understanding of the concept of poetry. At the same time, clarify that concept through analyzing the work "The Sound of Children Studying" by author Vuong Trong.

Poet Vuong Trong was awarded the State Prize for Literature and Arts in 2007. He is the author of many poetry collections on the themes of war, love of homeland, love of country, family... "At Nguyen Du's grave" and "A request at Dong Loc Cemetery" are two of his works that are well known to many people.

"Giving the work available for analysis makes it easier for us to identify the core of the theoretical issue. The work provided is also very close to poet Che Lan Vien's views on poetry," said contestant Anh Thu.

Sharing the same perspective, candidate Tran Thanh Ha (student of Giang Vo Secondary School, Ba Dinh District) shared that the literature essay section closely followed the previously reviewed Literature program.

"With the above format of given works to analyze, it will be an advantage for those who have good literary appreciation, as well as grasp some basic knowledge of literary theory," contestant Tran Thanh Ha added.

It is known that on the morning of June 9, candidates took one of the following exams: Literature, Math (for candidates taking the exam for specialized Math and IT classes) and Foreign Languages ​​(including French, Russian, Chinese, Japanese and Korean).

On the afternoon of June 9, candidates will take one of the following exams: Natural Science (for candidates applying to specialized classes in Physics, Chemistry, Biology); History and Geography (for candidates applying to specialized classes in History and Geography); English.

The time for each specialized exam is 150 minutes. Notably, this year, candidates taking the specialized Geography exam are not allowed to bring a Geography Atlas into the exam room.
