Liver damage can cause blood clots, difficulty concentrating, confusion, sleep disturbances and many other health problems, according to the Hindustan Times .

Mr. Gaurav Chaubal, a liver specialist working at Global Hospital (India), said: "There are many signs of liver damage. Accordingly, an inflamed or enlarged liver will cause jaundice, abdominal pain, swelling,... Early recognition of these signs is very important for timely medical intervention."

According to Dr. Punit Singla, liver transplant surgeon at Marengo Asia Hospital (India), common liver damage conditions are fatty liver and liver failure. Fatty liver may have no signs or symptoms.

When liver disease is in the severe stage, the symptoms of damage will be more serious. Specifically, common symptoms are jaundice, yellow eyes, dark urine, swollen legs, loss of appetite, sudden weight loss, itching, hair loss, loss of muscle mass, bloating, bloody stools, vomiting, sleep disorders,...

Dark urine

Bile excretion problems can cause dark urine. Because the liver plays an important role in metabolism, liver damage can make the body feel tired and weak.

Gastrointestinal symptoms

Liver damage can cause gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and loss of appetite. A more obvious sign is the appearance of small, spider-like blood vessels on the skin.

Brain dysfunction

Liver dysfunction can affect concentration, sleep, daytime sleepiness, and blood clotting.

Dark skin

A failing liver can also cause darkening of the skin, commonly known as liver spots or age spots. Chronic liver damage can lead to cirrhosis.

Symptoms of liver cancer are difficult to detect in the early stages. Both people with and without a history of cirrhosis are at risk of liver disease.

If you have anorexia, unexplained weight loss, jaundice, or swelling in your feet, see your health care provider for screening, blood tests, and abdominal ultrasounds, says Singla. If you have liver disease or a family history of liver disease, see your doctor for regular checkups.
