The 3rd Vietnam - US bilateral talks 'narrowed many gaps in negotiation areas'

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade , the third round of negotiations on the Bilateral Agreement on Reciprocal Trade between Vietnam and the US was held from June 9-12 (Vietnam time) in Washington, USA.

According to the negotiation delegation's assessment, in 4 days, the Vietnamese and US negotiation delegations made much progress, narrowing the gap in all areas of negotiation.

The two sides discussed frankly and constructively the issues of concern of each country as stated in the Response Document that Vietnam sent to the US, and took time to listen to the analysis and explanations towards suitable solutions that both sides could accept.

In addition, the two sides also agreed to hold an online meeting in the coming days to continue discussing outstanding issues and prepare for online negotiations between US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick and Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien.

Minister Lutnick affirmed that the US highly values its relationship with Vietnam and wants Vietnam to develop strongly. He acknowledged Vietnam's suggestions and concerns and said he would coordinate with the US Trade Representative to find an appropriate solution.

Minister Nguyen Hong Dien highly appreciated the assessments of Minister Lutnick and Ambassador Greer and affirmed Vietnam's determination to build and promote economic and trade relations with the US in a balanced and sustainable manner for the benefit of the people and businesses of the two countries.

The Ministers agreed to assign technical levels of both sides to continue to increase exchanges to soon reach an agreement in accordance with the expectations and conditions of each side.
