Dak Mil commune was established under Resolution No. 1671/NQ-UBTVQH15 of the National Assembly Standing Committee on the arrangement of commune-level administrative units of Lam Dong province in 2025. Dak Mil commune was established on the basis of merging the entire natural area and population of 3 communes of Dak Mil district (before the arrangement of administrative units), including: Dak Gan, Dak N'Drot and Dak R'la communes.
