Congratulating the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Singapore Armed Forces, General Phan Van Giang emphasized that Vietnam and Singapore are two active members of the ASEAN common house and have good friendly relations.

The two countries have many similar potentials, advantages and strategic interests. The upgrade to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in March was a historic milestone, opening a new chapter in the relationship between the two countries, including defense cooperation.

The Vietnamese Minister of National Defense assessed that over the past time, defense cooperation has achieved good, comprehensive, and substantive results, making important contributions to strengthening political trust between the two countries.

In particular, delegation exchanges at all levels are focused on; consultation, dialogue, information exchange and communication mechanisms are effectively maintained, especially the defense policy dialogue mechanism; cooperation between military branches, services, security, maritime safety and training continues to be a bright spot; actively consult and support each other at multilateral forums and mechanisms.

General Phan Van Giang sincerely thanked the Singaporean Ministry of National Defense for providing the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense with scholarships for specialized training and language training; and for receiving officers from the Vietnamese Navy, Coast Guard, and Border Guard to work at the Maritime Information Sharing Center (IFC). In addition, Singapore has supported and sent a high-ranking delegation to attend the 80th anniversary of the Vietnam People's Army, the 35th anniversary of the National Defense Day, and the Vietnam International Defense Exhibition 2024.

The Minister suggested that in the coming time, the two sides continue to strengthen trustworthy, comprehensive, substantive and focused cooperation in the following areas: exchanging delegations at all levels, especially high-level ones; effectively maintaining existing consultation and dialogue mechanisms; training and cooperation between military and service branches.

Vietnam and Singapore also need to increase the sharing of professional experience, exchange young officers and expand cooperation in areas suitable to the needs and capabilities of each side; continue to consult and support each other at multilateral defense and security forums within ASEAN and international events organized by each side.

For his part, Singaporean Defense Minister Chan Chun Sing affirmed the close defense cooperation between Singapore and Vietnam. He said that the two sides need to further promote bilateral defense cooperation, commensurate with the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.

The Singaporean Defense Minister agreed with the contents of General Phan Van Giang's discussion; affirmed his readiness to welcome Vietnamese People's Army officers to study in Singapore. He also agreed that the two sides should continue to effectively maintain consultation and dialogue mechanisms, especially towards the success of the upcoming defense policy dialogue to be held in Vietnam.

On the same morning, the Singaporean Defense Minister visited the headquarters of the Military Industry and Telecommunications Group (Viettel).
