Since noon on August 29, the streets around Ba Dinh Square have been packed with people, everyone wanting to find a seat to wait and watch the parade rehearsal tomorrow morning - August 30. Despite the unpredictable weather, every empty space on the sidewalk was quickly filled.
There were many veterans in the crowd. They were wearing medals on their chests and were let go by the younger people. However, due to the large crowd, many veterans had to stand among the crowd.
Authorities promptly directed the veterans to the priority area, which consisted of rows of pre-set seats near the stands, separated from the sea of people outside.
Accordingly, there are more than 5,000 seats in the priority area set up by the authorities on Hung Vuong Street, Tran Phu Street, Trang Tien Street, Nha Chung Street... to serve veterans and the elderly to watch the A80 parade.
The veterans' eyes lit up, they shook hands happily: "We have seats now, we can see the whole thing tomorrow."
Stepping over the fence into the priority area, veteran Ngo Van Cuong - who fought at the Vi Xuyen front - looked back at the stands, his eyes shining with pride. At the priority area, he and his old friends were cared for by the authorities and served drinks.
"I have been here since 7am, patiently waiting in line. Just now, the police guided me to a good seat, where I could see all the parades passing by. We are very happy," said veteran Ngo Van Cuong.
Veteran Nguyen Thi Minh was excited when the authorities helped her find a seat after many hours of waiting in line.
The old veterans began to chat with each other, telling stories of the past years. Laughter mixed with tearful stories made the atmosphere warm.
In the priority seats, veterans took souvenir photos together. Many took the opportunity to call their children and grandchildren on their phones: "Turn on the TV tomorrow, Dad is sitting right near the stands."
Outside the fence, many people waved to the veterans and the police force who were enthusiastically supporting them. That warmth was like a word of gratitude to the generations who had gone through the war.
