Using reactionary media as a means of sabotage
Hostile and reactionary forces always identify revolutionary journalism as an important target for sabotage, because they understand that this is a "sharp weapon" in protecting the ideological foundation of the Communist Party of Vietnam . The report of the 86th Command shows that in recent years, reactionary forces abroad have colluded with political opportunists in the country to increase the frequency and volume of articles against revolutionary journalism by establishing a reactionary "press and media ecosystem", publishing content that distorts revolutionary journalism, infiltrating and sabotaging the Party's ideological battlefield.

Their ecosystem produces dangerous viruses every day and every hour that can infect and penetrate the thoughts and emotions of cadres, party members and all classes of people - the public of revolutionary journalism. After production, they thoroughly exploit the psychology of the crowd and curiosity to spread to readers, especially the youth, with the sinister plot of creating responses, steering information, and then manipulating and changing the direction of revolutionary journalism.
It is clear that the popular forms of newspapers, electronic news sites and social networking platforms, such as: BBC Vietnamese, Viet Tan, Patriotic Diary, Citizen Journalists... along with bad elements such as Le Trung Khoa, Nguyen Van Dai... often create the cover of "neutral journalism", use ambiguous words, interview reactionary figures to legitimize anti-government information; take advantage of social networking platforms to post videos , articles with distortions, one-sided criticism, then use "satellite accounts" to "comment objectively", and steer public opinion according to their intentions.
They also thoroughly exploit brands and reputations, impersonating official press domain names such as "Nhan Dan Online", "VTV News", " Military News", "24h Hot News-VTV"... to attract interactions and spread false information; or create channels and websites with names, logos, and identifying images "similar" to reputable television stations and electronic newspapers to deceive readers.
The goal of hostile and reactionary forces is to cause confusion in society, destroy people's confidence, negatively impact and hinder socio-economic development, deny and distort revolutionary achievements. Furthermore, they want to eliminate the leadership of the Party and the socialist regime in Vietnam through the strategy of "peaceful evolution" and violent overthrow, in which the revolutionary press - a weapon on the ideological and cultural front - is identified as a key target.
“Weaponizing technology”, increasing dirty media
In recent years, the explosion of social networks and digital media has created a favorable environment for the development of journalism. Taking advantage of this factor, reactionary organizations, individuals, and political opportunists, with the support of some ill-intentioned foreign media companies, have thoroughly used “technological weapons” to produce and disseminate anti-government information, attacking revolutionary journalism and its public.
From the beginning of 2024 to the beginning of 2025, tens of thousands of pieces of bad, toxic, and untrue information with anti-Party and anti-State content appeared nationwide in reactionary newspapers and social media platforms. In particular, with the strong development of artificial intelligence (AI), reactionary organizations and individuals have created videos, images, and sounds using Deepfake and Voice Clone to oppose the Party, the State, and the socialist regime in Vietnam; defame officials and party members, especially high-ranking leaders. The technology company Resemble AI has just announced shocking information that in just the first 3 months of 2025, globally, more than 200,000 Deepfake videos and sounds were uploaded to social media sites, of which Asia accounted for 27% and Vietnam was a focus. Particularly dangerous, recently, they used AI to create hundreds of videos spreading fake news of a high-ranking leader speaking about corruption in the Army.
Hostile forces also directly attack press agencies and revolutionary journalists. They thoroughly exploit the negligence of press agencies and the shortcomings of journalists, then amplify them into a “media crisis”, exaggerating the incident. Through that, they sow doubts about the working environment, inciting journalists to waver, follow the trend of the Internet, fall into “self-evolution” and “self-transformation”.
Be strong, improve your skills in the digital age
If the press and media cannot maintain their political will, they may affect the political foundation. The media crisis during the elections in the US and many European countries due to social media in recent years is a clear lesson when information is not controlled. Looking back at the spreading effect of the "Arab Spring" more than a decade ago, which caused dozens of countries in the Middle East and North Africa to be engulfed in political storms, also from social media. That shows the unpredictable consequences of free, uncontrolled media.
That is also the goal that hostile forces want to destroy the foundation of the Vietnamese revolutionary press - the sharp tool and weapon of the Party's struggle on the ideological and cultural front. Therefore, in the face of the distorted arguments and sabotage tactics of hostile forces, the revolutionary press has been, is and will be the core force on the front line in the cause of protecting the Party's ideological foundation.
In the digital age, technology has developed rapidly, especially AI is widely applied, revolutionary press is facing a great opportunity to innovate content, expression methods and public approach. However, experts from Command 86 also warn that reactionary organizations and individuals will also thoroughly exploit anti-government technology, producing fake news in large quantities by using AI to automatically generate content, videos and images.
Therefore, in addition to closely following the Party's policies and guidelines, timely and diverse propaganda to meet public needs, columns directly fighting against the plots and tricks of hostile forces of revolutionary press need to be promoted and maintained effectively.
Along with researching and innovating leadership and management mechanisms, building a professional, humane and modern press and media, the Party and State need to pay attention to investing in depth in the force performing information warfare tasks, especially in technology, human resources and infrastructure.
Agencies and functional units need to build a data warehouse to analyze hostile and reactionary objects in cyberspace, identify their models, tactics, trends in activities, and methods of sabotage. Regulations on labeling videos created or edited by AI must be implemented. Research and application of AI in analyzing organizations and networks spreading fake news; early warning of media attack campaigns or identifying subjects spreading distorted content must be carried out synchronously. In-depth research on "information warfare", "cognitive warfare", and "psychological warfare" must be systematically deployed.
