President attends inauguration of International Container Terminals No. 3 and 4 in Hai Phong

On the afternoon of May 13, at Lach Huyen Port Area, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Hai Phong Liberation Day (May 13, 1955 - May 13, 2025) and the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam National Shipping Lines (April 29, 1995 - April 29, 2025), the People's Committee of Hai Phong City and Vietnam National Shipping Lines solemnly held the inauguration ceremony of international container terminals No. 3 and 4 of Lach Huyen Port - Hai Phong Port.

Also attending were Party Central Committee members: Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh; Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Vu Hong Thanh; leaders of central ministries and branches; Hai Phong city and a number of localities; domestic and international partners and customers; a large number of officials and employees of Hai Phong Port and units participating in the project.

The investment project to build container terminals No. 3 and 4 of Hai Phong International Port in Lach Huyen was approved by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 1323/QD-TTg dated October 9, 2019, with Hai Phong Port Joint Stock Company as the investor. This is not only a symbol of a new step forward in the competitiveness and global connectivity of Vietnam's logistics system, but also a strategic link in the national seaport development plan to 2030, with a vision to 2045, aiming to realize the goal of making Vietnam a strong and rich country from the sea.

This is a key project, of special significance not only to Vietnam National Shipping Lines and Hai Phong Port but also to the socio-economic development of Hai Phong and the entire Northern key economic region. The project also affirms the strong progress of Hai Phong Port on its journey to the open sea - the journey to realize the aspiration to conquer, develop and integrate that many generations of leaders, officers and employees of the Company have worked hard to cultivate through each historical period.

The project has a total length of two berths of 750m, depth of -16m, capable of receiving mother ships of 165,000 DWT (14,000 TEUs) and ships of 200,000 DWT with reduced load, along with barge berths and advanced loading and unloading equipment systems. In particular, Berths 3 and 4 are invested and operated according to the Green Port - Smart Port model, applying modern technology and automation, ensuring environmental standards, energy saving and sustainable development in line with the sustainable development trend of the world maritime industry.

The operation of Ports 3 and 4 creates a system of 6 ports in Lach Huyen to meet the cargo transportation needs of not only Hai Phong but also the entire Northern region. The volume of goods through Hai Phong port always increases at a high rate, from 12 - 15%/year, reaching 190 million tons in 2024 and expected to be 212 million tons in 2025. In particular, Lach Huyen Port area is planned to have the function of a gateway combined with international transit, with container terminals, general cargo, bulk cargo, liquid/gas cargo, international passenger terminals, and public service terminals; capable of receiving container ships up to 18,000 TEU; general cargo ships, bulk cargo up to 100,000 tons, liquid/gas cargo ships up to 150,000 tons, passenger ships up to 225,000 GT.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, on behalf of the city's leaders, Permanent Vice Chairman of Hai Phong City People's Committee Le Anh Quan praised and highly appreciated the efforts of Vietnam National Shipping Lines and Hai Phong Port Joint Stock Company in focusing resources on investing in many projects in the maritime and seaport sectors in Hai Phong, especially completing berths 3 and 4 of Lach Huyen port to put into operation.

Pointing out that this is an important event for Hai Phong Port, Vietnam National Shipping Lines and the development of Hai Phong city, Mr. Le Anh Quan affirmed that Hai Phong is committed to always accompanying and creating all conditions for investors to build, operate and exploit the remaining terminals at Lach Huyen port and Nam Do Son port as well as invest in high-tech industrial parks, modern seaport and logistics services according to the green growth model, circular economy and sustainable development.

The Standing Vice Chairman of Hai Phong City People's Committee also hopes to continue receiving attention and support from the Central Party Committee, the Government, and central ministries and branches in investing in infrastructure, especially maritime infrastructure and seaports in Lach Huyen and Nam Do Son areas in the spirit of Resolution No. 45 dated January 24, 2019 and Conclusion No. 96 dated September 30, 2024 of the Politburo.

The President and delegates performed the official button-pressing ceremony to inaugurate and put into operation Terminals No. 3 and 4 of Lach Huyen Port - Hai Phong Port.

On this occasion, President Luong Cuong presented gifts to encourage and acknowledge the efforts of the staff and workers of Hai Phong Port.
