This 2025 school year, the need for computers (laptops and PCs) for teachers and students, especially new students, is increasing. According to experts, users should choose to buy devices that are suitable for their financial capacity, meeting current and future work needs.

AI PC takes the throne

AI PCs will only really enter the world market in 2024, about 2 years after the first AI application was popularized for end users, OpenAI's ChatGPT, in late November 2022.

Called AI PC when the personal computer is equipped with both hardware (CPU integrated with AI NPU chip) and software (AI-enabled operating system, such as Windows with Copilot+, along with AI applications). According to Intel, AI PC is a personal computer that uses AI to improve productivity, creativity, gaming, entertainment and many other areas.

AI PCs are rapidly becoming a global trend as chip and component manufacturers, along with application software developers, accelerate their adoption of AI technology, combined with the increasing integration of edge AI capabilities into personal devices.

According to market research firm Gartner, the number of AI PCs could account for up to 43% of total PC shipments in 2025, reaching 114 million units. According to Mr. Eric Lee - Director of Southeast Asia (Vietnam, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos), ASUS (system business unit), since the first Copilot+ PC was launched in 2024, the market share of this product line in the consumer segment in Vietnam was initially only less than 1%.

However, by August 2025, this figure had increased to about 5%. In ASUS's consumer product portfolio alone, this ratio was even higher, reaching about 8% of total units sold - as of August.

According to experts, the AI ​​PC market is growing at an unprecedented rate. Not only due to the "AI fever" but also due to the "timing" factor. Specifically, during the COVID-19 pandemic, due to the need to switch to remote online work, while the supply in the market was disrupted, many people had to buy any computer they could get their hands on, including inventory. Therefore, these devices are no longer meeting work needs.

Depending on needs and financial ability

For many years, the laptop market has dominated the PC market. For example, in the first quarter of 2024, of the total 59.8 million PCs shipped globally, 50.3 million were laptops, compared to 16.1 million desktops (a ratio of 3.1:1).

As a result, AI laptops now dominate the AI ​​PC market. Gartner predicts that by 2026, the total number of AI laptops shipped will reach 102.4 million units, while there will be only 11.8 million AI desktops. In the enterprise sector, AI laptops will be the only choice in 2026.

Currently, in the market, users can freely choose an AI PC that suits their needs and financial capabilities. Familiar laptop brands such as ASUS, MSI, Dell, Lenovo, HP, etc. are constantly launching new AI PC models based on Intel, AMD and Qualcomm processors. The power of AI laptops is now not too different from that of AI desktops, which are even more expensive. For example, in the past, performance could only be achieved on desktop PCs in the price range of 50-70 million VND, but now, it can be achieved on laptops with similar configurations at a price of about 50 million VND.

Retail systems also cooperate with manufacturers to launch numerous incentive programs to stimulate demand for AI PCs, mainly AI laptops. For example, the technology retail system FPT Shop, during the 2025 back-to-school season, launched the program "New Bling Peak - Smart AI".

This is a program with a series of practical incentives specifically for young people, focusing on AI-integrated devices and effective learning support services. In addition to special discounts for teachers and students, FPT Shop also applies a flexible installment payment policy with 0% interest and a 0 VND down payment option. Many products in the program also have a warranty period of up to 3 years.

Because the market now has many AI PC models, it also makes users confused when choosing the right product. Experts advise users to prepare for the ability to meet the needs of the near future.

You need to prioritize your hardware for your workload, focusing on a powerful CPU with dedicated AI cores (NPUs), a discrete graphics card — ideally one that supports AI — with 8GB or more of VRAM, and at least 16GB or 32GB of RAM. The storage should be 1TB or larger, preferably SSD. All of this hardware should be compatible with the AI ​​applications that users need. Of course, it should also be compatible with the future generation of Windows 12.

As for price, just find a place that sells at a reasonable price, because the price of AI PC has now decreased significantly. Payment also has many flexible solutions to suit all financial capabilities.

In a recent interview with the press in Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Peter Chang - General Director of ASUS Asia - Pacific (system business division), said: "The AI ​​PC market has grown rapidly over the past year, this trend has spread in Vietnam. Currently, AI PCs - PCs integrated with NPU - have 3 groups of devices: mainstream AI, new generation AI and advanced AI. If counting all 3 groups, AI PCs currently account for about 30% of the total PC market in Vietnam. Meanwhile, some neighboring countries in the Southeast Asian region have surpassed the 50% mark, but the potential for growth in the Vietnamese market is huge because Vietnamese consumers, especially young people, are very responsive to technology."
