Huawei's upcoming Mate 70 series is expected to be powered by Huawei's Kirin 9100 chip. Reports suggest that the chip could outperform Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in terms of performance, but the chip won't come cheap.
Recently, a leaker shared that the Kirin 9100 could cost Huawei between VND 3.9 and 4.6 million per chip. Although the cost information has not been confirmed, it can be seen that the Kirin 9100 will be in the same price segment as the top processors from Qualcomm and MediaTek.
It is known that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip costs about 4.7 million VND, Dimensity 9400 also costs about 3.9 million VND and is more expensive than previous generations due to switching to TSMC's advanced 3nm process.
According to a report from Huawei, the company is planning to use the "domestically developed N+2/3" process to produce the Kirin 9100 chip, equivalent to a 5nm process. This chip will be manufactured using deep ultraviolet (DUV) lithography technology.
China's leading chipmaker SMIC is reportedly developing a 5nm process using DUV lithography technology to produce Huawei's next-generation Kirin chips, but SMIC is facing productivity and cost issues with the technology.
Besides, it is very difficult for Kirin 9100 to achieve performance and energy efficiency as good as the new generation chips from Qualcomm or MediaTek. However, its performance is said to be on par with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
