
In the world market, gasoline prices continued to increase last week, in the context of Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian oil refineries, causing Russia to close 17% of its oil refineries.
Meanwhile, updated data on finished gasoline prices on the Singapore market as of September 2 shows that RON92 gasoline is trading at 80.7 USD/barrel, RON95 gasoline at 82.7, an increase of about 2 USD/barrel compared to a week earlier.
With the above developments, domestic gasoline prices this afternoon, September 4, are forecast to increase slightly by 70 - 120 VND/liter, while oil prices may increase by 40 - 130 VND/liter.
In case the regulator uses the stabilization fund, the increase may change. If as forecasted, this will be the third consecutive increase in gasoline prices.
Meanwhile, the gasoline price forecast model of the Vietnam Petroleum Institute (VPI) shows that in this afternoon's adjustment period, retail gasoline prices may increase slightly by 0.1 - 1% compared to the previous adjustment period.
VPI forecasts that the retail price of E5 RON 92 gasoline may increase by VND101 (0.5%) to VND19,871/liter, while RON95 gasoline may increase by VND31 (0.2%) to VND20,391/liter.
According to VPI's model, retail oil prices are expected to remain stable or increase slightly during this period. Specifically, fuel oil prices may increase by 1% to VND15,414/kg; while diesel prices may increase slightly to VND18,363/liter and kerosene prices will remain at VND18,224/liter.
VPI forecasts that the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Finance will continue not to set aside or use the gasoline price stabilization fund this time.
Since the beginning of the year, domestic gasoline prices have gone through 34 adjustment sessions, of which 13 decreased, 15 increased and 6 were mixed.
At the adjustment session on the afternoon of August 28, the price of E5 RON92 gasoline increased by 307 VND/liter, not higher than 19,771 VND/liter. The price of RON95 gasoline increased by 271 VND/liter, not higher than 20,363 VND/liter.
Oil prices also increased simultaneously: Diesel increased by 452 VND/liter, not higher than 18,357 VND/liter. Kerosene increased by 411 VND/liter, not higher than 18,225 VND/liter and fuel oil increased by 144 VND/kg, not higher than 15,260 VND/kg.
