Joao Pedro joins Chelsea.

According to Athletic , Chelsea beat Newcastle to complete the deal to buy this striker. Joao Pedro, 23, is expected to sign a contract with "The Blues" until 2032. The Brazilian striker will immediately join Chelsea's squad at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025™ taking place in the US.

Previously, Newcastle was the number one candidate to recruit Pedro. However, Brighton rejected two offers from the "Magpies". Seizing this opportunity, Chelsea entered the game and reached an agreement to recruit Pedro for 55 million pounds, plus 5 million pounds in additional fees.

Pedro joined Brighton in 2023 for £30m from Watford. In two years at the club, the 23-year-old scored 30 goals and provided 10 assists in 70 games.

Pedro's arrival will add another option to Enzo Maresca's attack, which already has Nicolas Jackson and Liam Delap. However, British media have revealed that Chelsea could sell Jackson to reduce the workload at centre-forward.

Under Maresca, Chelsea have reached the quarter-finals of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025™ and will face Palmeiras on 5 July. Pedro is hoping to complete his Chelsea move quickly so he can make his debut against Palmeiras.

In addition, on June 29, Chelsea also reached an agreement to recruit young talent Jamie Bynoe-Gittens from Dortmund for 55 million pounds. The departure of Jadon Sancho and possibly Joao Felix will create conditions for Gittens to join Stamford Bridge. Coach Maresca is pleased to have one of his top targets ahead of the new season.

Chelsea into the quarterfinals after a crazy match On the morning of June 29, Chelsea defeated Benfica 4-1 in a match that lasted nearly 5 hours at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025™.
