Ask:
I heard that contraceptive implants are now a safe and gentle method. I would like to receive further advice from the doctor?

MSc. BSCKII Nguyen Thi Minh Thanh, Head of Specialist Examination Department, Hanoi Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital answered:
The contraceptive implant is a small, thin, soft, plastic rod about the size of a matchstick that contains the hormone progestin and is inserted under the skin of the upper arm. When the contraceptive implant is inserted, the hormone progestin enters the body and inhibits the monthly ovulation process. The contraceptive implant is the most modern, highly effective and safest method of contraception today. Most cases after implantation do not have any serious health problems.
In some cases, women may experience side effects of the contraceptive implant after it is implanted into the body. However, these unpleasant symptoms will disappear after a few months after the body has recognized and accepted the presence of the contraceptive implant.
However, this method is not for all women. Some people with health conditions that are in the contraindication group will not be suitable for the contraceptive implant method, including: Pregnant women or suspected pregnant women; Progressive cardiovascular thrombosis; Presence or suspicion of malignancy, hypersensitivity to SD steroids; Presence or history of liver tumors (benign or malignant), severe liver disease and liver function parameters have not returned to normal; Vaginal bleeding of unknown cause; Hypersensitivity to the active ingredient or any excipients of the drug.
Therefore, women should visit a doctor for examination and advice on appropriate contraception methods.
