In the 4th training session of the Vietnam U20 women's team on the afternoon of July 4, player Linda Pham went to the training field as soon as the team gathered.
Linda was born in 2006 in the Netherlands, her parents are both Vietnamese and she has Vietnamese nationality. She is 1m86 tall, has been playing football since she was 6 years old, and currently plays for a less famous club in the Netherlands as an attacking midfielder and striker.
Despite her limited Vietnamese, Linda Pham still tried to integrate with the friendly and enthusiastic support of her teammates. The Vietnamese coaching staff and domestic players were open and welcomed this player as a family member.
The presence of overseas Vietnamese players in a young team like the Vietnam U20 women's team not only increases the options for the squad but also brings a breath of fresh air and a positive competitive atmosphere.
Linda Pham is the next overseas Vietnamese to try her hand at the women's national teams, after Nguyen Hoang Nam Mi in the Vietnam women's team before the 2026 Asian Cup qualifiers. However, Nam Mi did not meet the professional requirements and was removed from the official competition list by coach Mai Duc Chung.
Vietnam's U20 women's team is gathering to prepare for Group B of the 2026 Asian U20 Women's Qualifiers, taking place at the VYF Youth Football Training Center, Hanoi .
The team is led by Japanese coach Okiyama Masahiko, with players mainly coming from teams in Ho Chi Minh City, Ha Nam , Hanoi, and Thai Nguyen.
"We are gradually perfecting our personnel and tactics for the qualifying round. The players are very determined, especially with important matches ahead against Kyrgyzstan, Singapore and Hong Kong (China). Having new faces like Linda Pham will help the team have more options and resilience," coach Masahiko shared.
In the coming days, the team will continue to train both physically and tactically, while also conducting internal matches and training sessions to test the performance of each position. With a serious spirit, discipline and a desire to perform, the Vietnam U20 women's team is aiming to pass the qualifying round to win a ticket to the 2026 AFC U20 Women's Championship.
