Emergency cut of Phong Chau pontoon bridge

(PLVN) - On the morning of June 11, according to the announcement from Brigade 249, the Engineering Corps had to urgently cut the Phong Chau pontoon bridge because the Red River's flow rate at the pontoon bridge location exceeded 3m/s.

According to Colonel Tran Van Tuan, the emergency bridge cutting was part of the plan and was coordinated with the authorities of Phu Tho province.

Vehicles are temporarily unable to move across Phong Chau pontoon bridge and the bridge is cut to ensure safety for the unit's equipment and vehicles passing through the bridge.

"It is expected that when the water flow rate drops below 3m/s, the unit will operate a ferry to take people across the river and when the flow rate drops below 2m/s, the Phong Chau pontoon bridge will be reconnected," the Brigade Commander of Brigade 249 informed.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the water level on the Red River in Phu Tho has increased by nearly 1 meter in the past 3 days (June 8-11) and is reaching a short-term peak at 13.6 meters and continues to change slowly.
