Chelsea report to police after £30,000 worth of recording equipment was stolen from club headquarters. |
The incident prompted the club to contact Surrey Police to investigate. It is unclear whether the high-tech equipment was stolen or simply lost during staff vacations. However, the incident was serious enough for the club to ask the authorities to get involved.
These state-of-the-art video recording systems play a vital role in coaching at top clubs like Chelsea, where they are used to analyse player performance in terms of physical, technical, tactical and psychological aspects.
This is not the first time the club has been involved in security incidents in the supposedly peaceful Surrey area. Previously, several Chelsea players were victims of daring robberies at their private villas near the training ground.
In December 2022, Raheem Sterling had his home broken into while he was playing for England at the World Cup. The thieves stole more than £300,000 worth of luxury watches, forcing Sterling to fly home to reassure his family. An Albanian thief was later sentenced to more than 11 years in prison for his involvement in the incident and 32 other burglaries in southern England.
In December 2021, captain Reece James was also burgled while playing in the Champions League. The thieves took the safe containing the 2021 Champions League winner's medal and the Euro 2020 runner-up medal.
At least two other Chelsea players (who have not been named) were also burgled around the same time, further highlighting the fact that security is a constant concern not only at the players’ homes, but also at the heavily guarded training ground.
