Thai media reported that at the official meeting of the Sports Selection Committee, athletes and officials attending the 33rd SEA Games on August 4, Secretary General of the Thai Olympic Committee Thana Chaiprasit announced that Cambodia decided to significantly reduce the number of members of its sports delegation attending the 33rd SEA Games.
Thai and regional media report that Cambodia has drastically cut its sports delegation's personnel.
According to Mr. Thana Chaiprasit, Cambodia initially planned to send 1,500 athletes in 37 sports to compete.
However, due to the tense situation on the border with Thailand, Cambodia will only send to the games… 57 athletes, the number of competitions is unknown. In total, Cambodia has reduced the number of its sports delegation by more than 96%!
Secretary General of the Cambodian Olympic Committee Vath Chamroeun affirmed that the country will still participate in the 33rd SEA Games.
Also according to data provided by the Thai Olympic Committee, four national sports delegations have announced the number of official members participating in the games, including Thailand with 2,134 people, Malaysia with 1,824 people, Singapore with 1,973 people and Vietnam with 863 people.
Meanwhile, four other countries, Indonesia, the Philippines, Brunei and Timor-Leste, have requested a two-week extension and are expected to send the official number of sports delegation members to the 33rd SEA Games Organizing Committee on September 1.
