The book is built on the basis of an interdisciplinary approach based on modern historical methodology, combined with the exploitation and processing of many rich and diverse historical sources painstakingly collected in Vietnam and abroad.

The book focuses on systematically, comprehensively and deeply analyzing the basic historical contents of the August Revolution: The situation in Vietnam under the domination of French colonialism and the Japanese army; the new guidelines and strategies of the Indochinese Communist Party, the birth of the Viet Minh Front to lead and organize the development of the revolutionary movement; the attitude of the Allied countries towards Indochina before March 9, 1945; the coup d'état of the Japanese army (March 9, 1945) and political changes in Vietnam as well as the leap forward of the patriotic and revolutionary movement in Vietnam; the process of tens of millions of Vietnamese people uniting to "use our own strength to liberate ourselves" under the leadership of the Party, the Viet Minh Front and President Ho Chi Minh , establishing the Democratic Republic of Vietnam; the characteristics, nature and historical significance of the August Revolution in 1945.

Through the work, the author draws a series of important conclusions, which have profound theoretical and practical values. The author has clearly demonstrated that the August Revolution of 1945 was a historical process with profound national, democratic and humane characteristics. It is the most concentrated symbol of will, aspiration, intelligence and noble Vietnamese cultural values.

The outstanding value of the book does not stop at vividly and realistically recreating the context, forces, preparations, and seizing the opportunity to seize power in the August Revolution, but the author also provides scientific and profound analysis, helping readers have a more complete understanding of the characteristics, nature, significance, and historical lessons of the August Revolution of 1945 in the historical context of the Vietnamese people, the situation of the region, and the context of the world.

The comprehensive analysis, recognition, and evaluation of the context and impact from many aspects help the author clearly affirm, with rigorous, scientific, objective, and specific arguments: The victory of the August Revolution in 1945 was not a "chance", an "accident" resulting from the appearance of a "power vacuum" as conceived by some Western scholars.

A revolution that took place on a large scale and won quickly with little bloodshed, it can be seen that subjective factors, internal factors, and the leadership and organizational roles of the Indochinese Communist Party and the Viet Minh were the most decisive factors for the victory of the August Revolution.

At the same time, this research also contributes to affirming the lasting value of the ideology of great national unity, of the national independence policy associated with the most progressive trends of the era. These are invaluable legacies that the Party, President Ho Chi Minh and our people have left for our nation today and tomorrow.

While there have been some quite famous works by individual historians abroad on the history of the August Revolution, the work of Prof. Dr. Pham Hong Tung is the first monograph by a Vietnamese scientist on this event. Therefore, the book is a new contribution to the global academic dialogue of researchers on the history, country, culture and people of Vietnam as a worthy member of the progressive human community.

The publication of the book “August Revolution 1945 in Vietnam: When the entire nation decided to “use our own strength to liberate ourselves”” has practical significance, contributing to clarifying the everlasting values of this important historical event, while educating and fostering patriotism, national pride and responsibility of generations of Vietnamese people in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland today.
