Da Nang banks seek security solutions after robberies

In 2023, there were 2 bank robberies in Da Nang city. Specifically, one robbery occurred at the Ngu Hanh Son District Transaction Office of Song Han Investment Joint Stock Commercial Bank and Dong Da Transaction Office, Hai Chau District of Da Nang Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Industry and Trade.

The above situation makes banks worry about security and safety. Mr. Tran Dinh Chanh - Director of Agribank Nam Da Nang - proposed that the city's leaders pay attention to the transaction offices of banks and arrange police officers to be on duty at the units.

"Especially in transaction offices, because robberies often happen in transaction offices. If there is a police officer there, the situation will be more stable than if the units hire bodyguards" - Mr. Chanh discussed.

The State Bank of Vietnam, Da Nang City Branch, said that the unit promptly grasped and directed the situation in 2023, and issued a document requesting that units in the area absolutely not be subjective, negligent, or lose vigilance in implementing regulations, professional procedures, treasury safety work, guarding, protecting headquarters, treasury, and preserving assets.

Banks need to proactively propose to the headquarters to coordinate with the Criminal Techniques Department, Da Nang City Police to receive advice and implement solutions to prevent bank robberies using advanced, modern techniques, suitable to the unit's operations and financial capacity.

In March 2023, the State Bank of Vietnam, Da Nang City Branch, coordinated with the City Police to organize a conference to deploy technical solutions to prevent and combat robberies and property theft at branches and bank transaction offices in Da Nang City. Through the conference, a number of credit institutions proactively coordinated with the City Police to receive advice on 3 solutions to prevent and combat robberies and property theft at banks, including: Communication and alarm systems connected to emergency buttons; GPS positioning disguised as money piles; and cameras disguised for remote observation, to ensure synchronization when connecting signals to the police of units and localities.

Regarding the arrangement of police protection at transaction offices, at the conference, Mr. Ho Ky Minh - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City - said that 64 bank branches and 246 transaction offices are currently operating in the city, and if police protection is arranged, it will be impossible.

“I suggest that, in addition to the measures taken by the City Police to suppress crime, banks need to organize a meeting chaired by the State Bank of Da Nang City with the City Police and districts to discuss additional solutions to support each other and ensure safety for operations at branches and transaction offices,” Mr. Minh said.
