Ca Mau: Arson due to jealousy, 56 kiosks at Thanh Tung market burned down

Regarding the fire at Thanh Tung market, on the afternoon of August 22, the People's Committee of Thanh Tung commune (Ca Mau province) said that by about 1:20 p.m. the same day, the fire had been extinguished. Currently, the authorities are blocking off the scene and urgently investigating the cause of the fire.

The fire did not cause any human casualties but burned down all 56 kiosks of 25 businesses in the market, causing estimated damage of several billion VND.

Earlier, at around 11:45 a.m. the same day, a fire broke out at a kiosk in Thanh Tung Market. Because the market contained many flammable materials, the fire quickly broke out and spread.

Upon receiving the news, Thanh Tung Commune People's Committee directed all the Commune Police and Commune Military Command to be present at the scene to extinguish the fire. In addition, Ca Mau Provincial Police and Dam Doi Commune Police also supported the fire fighting.

Chairman of Ca Mau Provincial People's Committee Pham Thanh Ngai was present at the scene, directly directing the fire fighting.

According to local residents, a man in the Thanh Tung market area, out of jealousy and conflict with his wife, set fire to a kiosk, which then spread to the surrounding area.

The cause of the fire is currently being investigated by the police.
