Advances in stroke treatment

Cerebral vascular accident is a common and dangerous complication, which can easily lead to the risk of death if there is no timely medical intervention. In particular, cerebral aneurysm, one of the branches of cerebral vascular accident, is considered a difficult complication to intervene for provincial hospitals. With efforts, along with the development of treatment techniques, recently, Ca Mau General Hospital successfully intervened for the first time in a case of cerebral aneurysm, opening a new step forward in the treatment of difficult complications that require the application of high technology in the province.

After more than 7 days of treatment, the patient, Mr. Ng.NV, 51 years old, residing in Dinh Binh commune, Ca Mau city, gradually stabilized his health and was able to stand up and walk by himself.

According to Mr. V's family, while he was working, he suddenly had a severe headache. His family took him to Ca Mau General Hospital. Immediately after receiving the patient, the doctors performed a CT scan of the brain and discovered a hemorrhage in the left cerebral sulcus of the patient. Because of suspected signs of aneurysm or cerebral vascular malformation, to determine the cause and have a treatment direction, the doctors performed a DSA scan of the brain (a specialized imaging technique that allows detailed visualization of the cerebral vascular system), and discovered a carotid artery aneurysm that could cause a cerebral blood vessel to rupture.

After consultation, it was found that if the patient was transferred to a higher level, there would be a risk of cerebral artery rupture due to the long travel distance. Hospital doctors discussed and consulted with the patient's family, and at the same time coordinated with SIS Can Tho International General Hospital to diagnose and propose an intervention method.

The patient with cerebral aneurysm complications recovered well after more than 1 week of treatment.

The patient with cerebral aneurysm complications recovered well after more than 1 week of treatment.

With the direct support of experts from SIS Can Tho International General Hospital, after more than 1 hour of intervention using high-tech surgical techniques, the case was successfully performed. Doctor CKI Le Tuong Lai, Deputy Head of the Department of Neurology, Ca Mau General Hospital, said: “Initially, the family also intended to transfer the patient to a higher level for treatment. However, after determining the cause and assessing that this was a case of cerebral aneurysm, which could lead to a ruptured cerebral aneurysm, and if moved, it could easily endanger the patient's life. We coordinated with experts from SIS Can Tho International General Hospital to consult on intervention, and discussed with the patient's family. After receiving the consent of the patient's family, we successfully performed the intervention. Up to now, the patient is recovering very well."

It is known that cerebral aneurysm complications account for about 15% of all stroke cases. If not intervened promptly, they will lead to rupture of cerebral blood vessels, with a very high risk of death. In recent times, Ca Mau General Hospital has been autonomous in intervening in cases of stroke caused by cerebral artery occlusion. Particularly for cerebral aneurysm intervention, with the support of SIS Can Tho International General Hospital, the hospital sent a team of experienced doctors and physicians from the Department of Neurology to study and receive high-tech treatment methods in cerebral aneurysm intervention, cerebral blood vessel rupture and abnormalities of cerebral arteries and veins, gradually becoming autonomous as well as improving the quality of high-tech treatment for cerebral complications at provincial hospitals.

Stroke is a very dangerous disease, easily leading to disability and high mortality if there is no timely medical intervention. This is a disease that requires intensive intervention of high-tech treatment, in which, cerebral aneurysm complication is one of the complicated complications, provincial hospitals almost have to transfer patients to higher level for treatment.

The fact that Ca Mau General Hospital successfully intervened in this case for the first time shows that the high-tech treatment capacity of the medical team at the provincial level has been significantly improved. Thereby, opening up opportunities for access to high-quality medical treatment, helping to reduce costs and time for patients, as well as reducing the burden on upper-level hospitals, contributing to increasing the recovery rate and preventing stroke complications caused by cerebrovascular accidents./.
