Strategic step into the global semiconductor industry map

DNVN - On June 12, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee and AMD Technology Corporation (USA) officially signed a memorandum of understanding on strategic cooperation, opening a new phase in the development of the semiconductor industry, artificial intelligence and digital transformation in Vietnam.

The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the City People's Committee and AMD aims to contribute to implementing the direction in Resolution 57-NQ/TW dated December 22, 2024 on breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation and national digital transformation, and also create a push to attract high-tech investment in Ho Chi Minh City High-Tech Park in the period of 2025-2030.


Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha & Chairman of the City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc visited the technology display products.

Under the cooperation, AMD will coordinate to organize in-depth training courses on microchip design and AI for students, lecturers, and experts; research and establish an R&D center in Ho Chi Minh City; and promote the application of AMD technology in key areas such aseducation , healthcare, digital infrastructure, and data centers.

Mr. Ryan Sim, Senior General Manager for Asia-Pacific and Japan, informed at the ceremony.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Vo Van Hoan said that in the context of Vietnam and the United States celebrating the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations (1995-2025), the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee and AMD Group is very important. This is not only a cooperation event at the local level, but also a concrete demonstration of the trust and mutual development relationship between Ho Chi Minh City and a global technology enterprise. The city's leaders believe that this cooperation will create a spillover effect in attracting high-tech investment, promoting human resource development and contributing to the realization of the national semiconductor industry development strategy.

“As a leader in high-performance and adaptive computing, AMD’s products and services are helping to solve some of the world’s most important challenges. We are excited to bring our expertise and technology to Vietnam, supporting the country in building a high-tech ecosystem that brings practical benefits to the community,” said Ryan Sim, Senior General Manager, Asia Pacific and Japan.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha highly appreciated Ho Chi Minh City’s proactive efforts in promoting international cooperation with AMD to develop the high-tech sector – especially in strategic sectors such as semiconductors and artificial intelligence, which are key areas for the country’s future development. This cooperation is completely in line with the spirit and content of the Joint Statement on upgrading Vietnam – US relations to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. At the same time, he also highly appreciated the connecting and accompanying role of SunEdu – a leading unit in training high-quality human resources in the fields of electronics, semiconductors and AI – for its meaningful contributions in promoting this strategic partnership.

In addition, focus on research and development of core technology, new generation breakthrough specialized chip products through investment in core technology research centers on semiconductors, focusing on areas such as AI chips, IoT chips; have a support mechanism to share and use some laboratory infrastructure and research facilities; expand research and development, technology transfer at the national level, research institutes, universities, and enterprises in the semiconductor field.

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha pledged that the Vietnamese Government will continue to accompany and create the most favorable conditions through transparent policies, encourage innovation and strongly support the cooperation between Ho Chi Minh City and AMD Group to be effective and successful.

In addition, the agreement is also a highlight in a series of activities celebrating the 30th anniversary of Vietnam-US diplomatic relations, contributing to deepening the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.
