The Battle That Made History – Dien Bien Phu Campaign Through Panorama Paintings
As the first and only panorama in Vietnam, the “Dien Bien Phu Campaign” panorama not only has the largest scale in Southeast Asia but is also in the top three largest circular paintings in the world . The work realistically recreates typical moments and outstanding events in the historic Dien Bien Phu campaign in 1954.
Started in 2013 and completed after 9 years in May 2022, the painting is the result of nearly 200 young artists graduating from the Vietnam University of Fine Arts under the direction and implementation of the Vietnam Cultural Heritage Conservation Company.
The oil painting is 20.5m high, 132m long, 42m in diameter, and covers a total area of 3,225m². The reliefs simulating the terrain and battlefield objects are seamlessly connected to the painting, while the dome above opens up a peaceful sky.
