Fostering leadership and management skills and experience for officials of the Overseas Vietnamese Association

More than 100 delegates, who are leaders and key officials of Vietnamese Associations from 17 countries and territories around the world, participated in the 2025 Overseas Vietnamese Association Leadership Training Course organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to foster leadership and management skills and strengthen ties with the overseas Vietnamese community.

On August 29, in Hanoi, the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs organized a training course for leaders of Overseas Vietnamese Associations in 2025.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Foreign Minister Le Thi Thu Hang said that currently, the Vietnamese community abroad has about 6 million people living, studying and working in over 130 countries and territories, with about 1,000 Vietnamese associations worldwide, of which over 500 associations have close ties with Vietnamese representative agencies abroad.

Overseas Vietnamese associations have developed in both quantity and composition with many forms and diverse activities, supporting people to stabilize their lives, integrate into the host society, create cohesion, maintain traditional cultural identity, and contribute to the development of the country.

In the work related to overseas Vietnamese, community associations have shown a very important role, being the core in the activities of overseas Vietnamese as well as the focal point for Vietnamese representative agencies to carry out many aspects of work in the area.

However, overseas Vietnamese associations are currently facing certain difficulties, while the leaders of the associations are mostly overseas Vietnamese who are enthusiastic and willing to contribute to the community and the country, but most of them have not been equipped with professional knowledge and skills in leading and managing association activities. That has somewhat reduced the effectiveness of the associations of the overseas Vietnamese community.

Emphasizing that the Party and State always pay attention to the work of overseas Vietnamese in general and the work of associations in particular, Deputy Foreign Minister Le Thi Thu Hang stated that in recent times, the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese has carried out many activities to support the consolidation and improvement of the organizational apparatus of established associations; and to mobilize the establishment of liaison committees and associations of Vietnamese people in areas where there are no associations.

At the same time, support associations to promote their core role in organizing community activities, act as a bridge to contribute to strengthening friendly relations between our country and other countries, connect associations with the domestic; support and orient to solve existing problems in associations; strengthen the mechanism of quick and timely information exchange with associations...

Deputy Foreign Minister Le Thi Thu Hang said that this is the first time that the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, Ministry of Foreign Affairs , has organized a training course for leaders of overseas Vietnamese associations, aiming to improve association work, equip delegates with necessary skills. Through lectures by experts, discussions and exchange of practical experiences with experts and leaders of associations in the localities help delegates improve the effectiveness in managing and organizing association activities, and foster some necessary skills and experiences in association work.

In addition, participating in the training course contributes to strengthening the connection between overseas Vietnamese and their homeland, creating conditions for leaders of overseas Vietnamese associations to witness the development of the country, thereby becoming active propagandists in the community, spreading accurate and objective information about the country's situation to local people.

Deputy Foreign Minister Le Thi Thu Hang hopes that delegates will actively participate in the training sessions, gain many practical and useful results, and contribute more experience to their association activities, in order to build the community where they live to become more united, strong and developed.

Within the framework of the training course, delegates were informed about the domestic and foreign situation; functions, tasks, and organizational structure of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese.

Along with that is information on basic issues of the community and associations of Vietnamese people abroad such as the role, functions, tasks, and specific activities of associations of Vietnamese people abroad; the relationship between associations of Vietnamese people abroad, between associations and representative agencies abroad as well as with ministries, branches, and relevant agencies in the country...

Delegates were also informed about Vietnamese laws for overseas Vietnamese; information about the role, functions and tasks of the Association's leaders; skills in organizing and assigning tasks such as planning activities, managing and organizing activities and events; mobilizing and developing members, participating in the organization of the association; training, fostering and developing the next generation of cadres...

In addition, delegates were also trained in communication skills such as answering interviews; creating news articles to communicate the association's activities; applying information technology and social networks in activities...

The 2025 training course for leaders of Vietnamese Associations Abroad is expected to close on August 31 in Hanoi.
