A young man was discovered by locals in an accident in Me Linh District ( Hanoi ) of unknown cause early this morning (June 17) in critical condition. Passersby took the victim to the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases for emergency treatment.

According to the doctors, the patient had no identification, no one accompanying him, and no one knew his name, age, or circumstances. In the doctors’ hands was an “unknown case” with all medical history information being zero.

Upon admission, the patient was assessed as having moderate cognitive impairment, warning of the risk of progressive brain damage. An emergency CT scan of the head showed a subdural hematoma in the right hemisphere with cerebral edema – a sign of severe traumatic brain injury that could progress rapidly.

Skip hospital fees, fight for young man's life

The young man is being treated after emergency surgery at the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases.

As expected, after only 1 hour, the patient suddenly lost consciousness, fell into a deep coma, and had a very high risk of death if not treated promptly.

At this time, there was no more time for administrative procedures, the neurology team decided to take the patient straight to the operating room with a single goal: to release the blood clot and save the remaining part of the brain.

The surgery lasted about 3 hours, after which the nucleus began to respond again, indicating that brain function had initially recovered.

Directly treating the male patient, Dr. Nguyen Quang Thanh (neurosurgeon, cranial surgeon) said that the patient had a closed head injury, subdural hematoma in the right hemisphere with diffuse cerebral edema. This was an extremely rapid and dangerous progression of the case. Timely treatment, close monitoring after surgery, and the on-call team initially saved the young man's life.

The patient's condition is still serious, but his neurological reflexes have improved. The team is focusing on controlling cerebral edema, supporting vital functions, and closely monitoring to minimize sequelae.

Dr. Thanh said that people who have an accident, even if they are still conscious, should still be taken to the hospital as soon as possible. Many cases seem mild but progress very quickly, the important thing is not to be subjective and not to delay.

It is known that immediately after receiving and providing emergency care to the young man, the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases contacted the patient's relatives to find them. By late this afternoon, the patient's relatives had been found and it was determined that the patient was 22 years old, from Yen Bai , and was working in Hanoi.
