Foreign Ministry informs about the rescue of 7 immigrants in a truck in the UK

Regarding the information that British police discovered and rescued 7 immigrants in a truck at East Sussex port (Newhaven, UK) on February 16, the Vietnamese Embassy in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland said the incident is under investigation and verification.

These people are currently receiving medical treatment.

Implementing the direction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs , the Vietnamese Embassy in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland has been in close contact with local authorities to request coordination and closely monitor the case, as well as being ready to take necessary citizen protection measures to ensure the legitimate rights and interests of citizens in case they are identified as Vietnamese citizens.

According to British media, on February 16, the authorities of this country discovered 7 immigrants believed to be Vietnamese citizens in the back of a truck at the Newhaven ferry terminal. Ferry operator DFDS, which operates routes between Newhaven and Dieppe in Normandy, northern France, confirmed that the immigrants were found on the Seven Sisters and said they were given immediate medical attention.

On February 19, suspect Anas Al Mustafa, 42 years old from Swansea, appeared at Brighton Magistrates' Court charged with facilitating illegal entry into the UK. He was remanded in custody and will appear at Lewes Crown Court on March 18.

According to police sources, in addition to Al Mustafa, another suspect was arrested on charges of illegally entering the UK.
