In the preliminary report on the implementation of tasks in the first 6 months of the year, the Ministry of Transport affirmed that airfares have met the needs and affordability of the people.
Accordingly, the Ministry of Transport (MOT) said that recently, the ministry has requested airlines to adjust and increase slots at some airports during peak hours, and directed drastic measures to stabilize airfares, which have basically reduced them to a level that meets the needs and affordability of the people.
The Ministry of Transport also said that it has implemented many solutions to facilitate airlines to open new routes and increase direct flights between Vietnam and other countries/territories, especially the resumption of international flights to tourist destinations.
Passenger transport output is estimated at 38.1 million passengers, up 6.7% over the same period, and cargo is estimated at 599 thousand tons, up 22% over the same period.
Previously, the issue of rising airfares attracted public attention. The Ministry of Transport also issued a document directing the review of airfares.
The Ministry of Transport said that recently, the high airfares of domestic airlines have directly affected people's travel needs, especially during peak periods such as the recent April 30 - May 1 holiday.
In order to strengthen State management, strictly control airfares, contribute to price stabilization, ensure harmony between socio-economic development goals in accordance with the direction of the Government and the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Transport requests the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam to review and inspect ticket sales, declare and post prices, and publicize and transparently disclose information on airfares of airlines.
In case of detecting any abnormalities, promptly direct, rectify and immediately handle violations according to authority. At the same time, the Civil Aviation Authority organizes inspections and checks on ticket sales, declaration and price posting of airlines, absolutely not allowing the situation of ticket price increase against regulations.
The Department of Transport proactively monitors and promptly advises the Ministry to direct agencies and units to strengthen inspection of transport activities and passenger services, enhance solutions to best serve people's travel needs, stabilize ticket prices, and prevent illegal ticket price increases, especially during the upcoming summer peak season, on the principle of harmonizing the interests and rights of businesses and the needs of the people.

According to the analysis of many experts, the high airfares come from many causes such as the increasing shortage of aircraft, and airfares having to bear many taxes and fees.
