On the afternoon of August 11, the Ministry of Education and Training officially issued the time frame, plan, and schedule for the opening and returning to school for the new school year, the 2025-2026 school year.

Accordingly, the Ministry of Education and Training issued the timetable framework for the 2025-2026 school year for preschool education , general education and continuing education applied nationwide as follows:

School starts at least 1 week before the opening day. Grades 1, 9, and 12 start at least 2 weeks before the opening day.

The whole country will start the new school year on September 5, 2025. The first semester will end before January 18, 2026. The program will be completed and the school year will end before May 31, 2026. The primary school program will be recognized and the secondary school graduation will be recognized before June 30, 2026.

Complete enrollment for first grade classes before July 31, 2026.

The 2026 high school graduation exam is scheduled to take place on June 11 and 12, 2026.

Other national exams are organized according to regulations and instructions of the Ministry of Education and Training.

According to the Ministry of Education and Training, the school year schedule of localities must ensure 35 weeks of actual study (18 weeks for semester I and 17 weeks for semester II). The school year schedule must be suitable to the characteristics and practical conditions of the locality.

Holidays are implemented according to the provisions of the Labor Code and annual guidelines.

Teachers' annual leave is taken during the summer vacation or can be arranged alternately at other times of the year to suit the specific characteristics and school year schedule of the locality.

Return to school at least 1 week before the opening day

The Ministry of Education and Training requires that the school year schedule must ensure consistency for all levels of education in a residential area, especially in general schools with many levels of education.

The Chairman of the People's Committee of a province or centrally-run city decides: The school year schedule for preschool education, general education and continuing education is suitable to local realities.

The time to start school early and the time to extend the school year shall not exceed 2 weeks compared to the regulations in order to ensure the implementation and completion of preschool education, general education and continuing education programs in case of being affected by natural disasters and epidemics. In special cases, report to the Ministry of Education and Training before implementation.

The Director of the Department of Education and Training decides to let students take time off from school in case of extreme weather, natural disasters and arrange make-up classes; ensure teachers' time off during the school year. At the same time, report to the Ministry of Education and Training on: - The situation of preparing for the school year and the situation of organizing the opening ceremony of the 2025-2026 school year before September 10, 2025. Summarize the implementation of tasks, key solutions for the 2025-2026 school year and the results of implementing emulation criteria, propose consideration of rewards for the school year before June 25, 2026.

It is known that as soon as the Ministry of Education and Training issued the time frame for the new school year 2025 - 2026, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City also submitted a proposal to the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City on the time frame and plan for the new school year in Ho Chi Minh City. According to the proposal of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, on August 18 (Monday) next week, grades 1, 9, and 12 in Ho Chi Minh City will officially return to school.
