Politburo: Complete universal high school education by 2035

(Dan Tri) - The Politburo sets a goal of completing universal high school education and equivalent by 2035.

Resolution 71 of the Politburo on breakthroughs in education and training development sets important goals for three periods: from now to 2030, 2035 and 2045.

Specifically, by 2030, the education sector's goal is to complete universal preschool education for children aged 3 to 5 and compulsory education through secondary school. At the same time, the number of people of the right age to complete high school or equivalent will reach at least 85%, with no province or city achieving less than 60%.

By 2035, universal high school education and equivalent must be completed.

Regarding education quality, the goal by 2030 is to expand equitable access and improve the quality of preschool and general education to reach advanced levels in the Asian region.

The improvement of technological capacity, artificial intelligence and English proficiency at the secondary level has achieved initial results. The education index contributing to the human development index (HDI) reached over 0.8, in which the education inequality index decreased to below 10%.

By 2035, the education index contributing to the HDI will reach over 0.85; the human capital and research index contributing to the GII will reach above the average of upper-middle-income countries.

At the same time, strive for at least 2 higher education institutions to be among the top 100 universities in the world in a number of fields according to prestigious international rankings.

By 2045, Vietnam aims to have a modern, equitable and high-quality national education system, ranked among the top 20 countries in the world; strive for at least 5 higher education institutions to be among the top 100 universities in the world in a number of fields according to prestigious international rankings.

The Politburo’s Resolution emphasizes that education and training, together with science and technology, are the top national policies. However, education and training still face many difficulties and limitations and have not really become the key driving force for the country’s breakthrough development.

Faced with the historic opportunity for breakthrough development, the Politburo emphasized that the requirement for building people and human resources is very important and urgent, requiring a breakthrough in education and training development to contribute to building a new generation of Vietnamese people with patriotism and national pride, with enough courage, intelligence, capacity, qualifications and health to meet the requirements of building, developing the country and protecting the Fatherland in the new development stage.
