On the evening of September 25, Dr. Huynh Minh Chin, Deputy Director of the Department of Health of Binh Duong province, said that the first case of monkeypox had just been recorded in the area, temporarily residing in Cong Xanh quarter, Tan Binh commune, Bac Tan Uyen district.

According to the initial report, on September 23, the Pasteur Institute of Ho Chi Minh City informed about the case of Ms. NKL (22 years old) who had close contact with a previously identified monkeypox patient (living in Dong Nai province, working in Ho Chi Minh City), the Department of Health established a monitoring team to investigate and monitor the case that same evening.

Leaders of Binh Duong Department of Health held an urgent meeting to deploy measures to prevent monkeypox.

The provincial Department of Health also sent a document to the provincial Center for Disease Control and medical facilities to promote and proactively prevent monkeypox after detecting the first case in the area.

Medical facilities in Binh Duong are required to thoroughly investigate all cases of contact with positive monkeypox cases to determine the source of infection; promptly manage and handle outbreaks to prevent spread to the community; organize isolation for positive cases to avoid deaths and prevent infection of medical staff; organize monitoring and report cases according to regulations.

According to the Binh Duong Provincial Department of Health, monkeypox is mainly transmitted from person to person when:

+ Direct contact with monkeypox rash, sores or scabs;

+ Sexual contact of any kind or touching the genitals or anus of a person with monkeypox;

+ Hugging, massaging, kissing; talking closely through respiratory droplets or oral fluids of a person with monkeypox;

+ Contact with surfaces used by a person with monkeypox or personal items of the sick person such as clothes, bedding, towels, eating utensils, etc.

Incubation period from 2 to 4 weeks:

+ After the fever subsides, a rash appears that progresses from macules → papules → vesicles → pustules → depressions, crusting → peeling. The rash can appear at different stages on the body;

+ The rash spreads from the face to other parts of the body. Lesions can also appear on the mucous membranes, conjunctiva, cornea in the mouth, on the tongue and on the genitals;

+ Lesions are 0.5 - 1cm in diameter and number from a few to several thousand.
