Le Son village, today in Van Hoa commune (Tuyen Hoa, Quang Binh ) is the place that marks one of the most glorious pages in the resistance war against French colonialism.
Located in a strategic position leaning against the majestic Truong Son mountain range and facing the Gianh River, Le Son soon became a key defense line, the gateway to protect the Tuyen Hoa free zone in the early days of the resistance war.
When the French colonialists began to send troops to Quang Binh, the army and people of Le Son did not fear difficulties and hardships, taking advantage of the mountains and rivers, organizing guerrilla forces, digging trenches and building ramparts, creating a solid position to smash many large-scale attacks of the enemy.
During the period 1947–1952, Le Son became the target of French colonialists many times. The battles on April 17, November 24-25, 1948, and January 26, 1949 were clear evidence of the courage and resilience of the army and people here.
Under the battle formation of the village, which was tightly arranged with bamboo fences, homemade mines and a solid trench system, the French army continuously suffered losses and fled in panic many times. Le Son truly became an impregnable "fortress" at the front line of the resistance, contributing to protecting the province's headquarters and extending the defense of the army and people of Quang Binh during the most difficult days.
More than 70 years have passed, but the remaining traces in Le Son still remind today's generation of the heroic spirit and indomitable will of our ancestors.
Le Son fighting village is not only a historical relic of great value in research and teaching, but also a beautiful symbol of the people's war, where the tradition of indomitability and loyalty crystallizes.
