Bac Son: Civilized weddings and funerals

Before 2017, Hoang Van Thu block, Bac Son town still had a situation of cumbersome and wasteful weddings and funerals. Currently, this situation no longer exists, 100% of weddings and funerals in the area are carried out according to NSVM. Mr. Luong Van Dung, Party Cell Secretary, Head of Hoang Van Thu block, said: The block has 137 households with 628 people, divided into 5 self-governing groups. To implement NSVM in weddings and funerals, we organized meetings of people and organizations in the area to agree to include the implementation of NSVM in weddings and funerals in the village covenant and block convention. At the same time, the Block Front Work Committee directly participated in helping, guiding, and supervising households organizing weddings and funerals in the area according to regulations.

- As one of the typical localities of the province in implementing civilized lifestyle (NSVM) in weddings and funerals, in recent times, Bac Son district has had many practical ways of doing things, in which building and replicating NSVM models in weddings and funerals has been and is an outstanding effective solution of the district.

Representatives of households in Hoang Van Thu block, Bac Son town signed a commitment to practice civilized lifestyle in weddings and funerals in the area.

Along with Hoang Van Thu street, Bac Son town currently has 9/12 blocks of streets building and implementing the NSVM model well in weddings and funerals. Mr. Bui Huynh Kien, Party Secretary, Chairman of the town People's Committee said: The town Party Committee and government always attach importance to leadership and direction in implementing NSVM in weddings and funerals. We carry out propaganda and dissemination work according to the motto: "People know, people discuss and implement together", in which party members play a core role, setting an example first. In particular, we focus on building models of implementing NSVM in weddings and funerals in the area with strict regulations included in village conventions and conventions in residential areas for people to understand and register for implementation.

Along with Bac Son town, other communes in the district have also built many typical models in implementing NSVM in weddings and funerals. Ms. Do Thanh Loan, Head of the District Department of Culture, Science and Technology, said: In recent years, the department has advised the Steering Committee (SC) of the Movement "All people unite to build a cultural life" of the district to issue plans and organize the implementation of regulations on NSVM in weddings and funerals in accordance with the conditions and customs of ethnic minorities in the area; making the implementation of NSVM in weddings and funerals one of the criteria for evaluating and considering the titles of "Cultural Family" and "Cultural Residential Area". In particular, since 2020, the department has advised the District Steering Committee to direct the People's Committee of Dong Y commune to select the residential area of ​​Hop Nhat village to deploy a pilot model and replicate it throughout the district and direct communes and towns to select 1 to 2 villages as pilot villages. Up to now, the whole district has built 25 pilot models on implementing NSVM in weddings and funerals.

To replicate the model of implementing NSVM in weddings and funerals, from 2020 to present, every year, the District Steering Committee has directed departments, offices, and People's Committees of communes and towns to strengthen propaganda through many forms such as: village and neighborhood meetings, and visual propaganda. At the same time, the People's Committees of communes and towns have issued regulations on implementing NSVM in weddings and funerals and commitment documents for cadres, party members, association members, union members, clans, and households to implement. Heads of villages and neighborhoods in the area coordinate with heads of the Front's working committees and organizations to disseminate to the people; select contents suitable to the actual situation to include in the village and neighborhood's covenants and conventions.

Up to now, the implementation of NSVM in weddings and funerals has focused on the following contents: the wedding party is organized solemnly and economically, the bride request is simple, no guests are invited for side meals, no tents are set up on the street; the funeral is organized economically, no one is left in the house for more than 48 hours, no lavish meals are organized, the offerings and wreaths are rotated, no votive paper is scattered along the road during the funeral...

With appropriate methods, people in the district have voluntarily implemented the regulations on NSVM in weddings and funerals. In 2024, in the district, 309/309 weddings were held in accordance with NSVM (100%); 410/410 funerals were held in accordance with NSVM (100%).
