Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi meets with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on October 26.

The diplomat said the two countries agreed to work together to hold a meeting of leaders in San Francisco, California. However, "the road to San Francisco will not be smooth and cannot be on autopilot."

Previously, the White House announced that the two sides were "working towards" a direct meeting between the US and Chinese leaders on the sidelines of the APEC Summit, scheduled to take place in San Francisco from November 15-17.

The Chinese foreign minister said that for the meeting to take place, the two sides must "return to Bali," referring to the commitments made by the two leaders when they met on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Bali, Indonesia, in November 2022. The two countries must eliminate interference, overcome obstacles, strengthen consensus and accumulate results, Mr. Wang said.

Earlier, the Chinese foreign minister held meetings with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan and President Joe Biden. Mr. Wang said both sides sent positive signals about stabilizing and improving US-China relations. Although there are many differences that need to be resolved, Foreign Minister Wang Yi said both sides believe that maintaining dialogue is beneficial and necessary.
