Three companies stop researching foldable screen smartphones

According to Gizmochina , leakster Digital Chat Station (DCS) claims that at least three major brands have paused or significantly delayed their foldable smartphone projects. DCS reports that one of the top five smartphone manufacturers worldwide has completely suspended its foldable device development efforts. In addition, two more companies have also paused their flip-style foldable smartphone projects.

The foldable smartphone market is still dominated by Samsung

The foldable smartphone market is currently dominated by Android manufacturers. Samsung holds the largest market share and is said to be working on the next version of its Galaxy Z foldable smartphone, including a model that can fold in three. Huawei is also developing a tri-fold smartphone, while Oppo and Vivo are other major players that have released their own versions of foldable devices.

At this point, it is unclear why these projects have been suspended, and the specific brands have not been revealed. However, a recent report suggests that both Oppo and Vivo have decided to withdraw from the foldable smartphone market, as their market share in this segment has dropped significantly over the last year. However, there has been no official statement from either brand, so everything is just a rumor.

If these rumors are true, it could also affect OnePlus' efforts to develop a foldable smartphone - which is heavily dependent on Oppo by launching a foldable device under its own brand.

Apple is also facing challenges due to its fragile screens. While foldable smartphones offer unique designs and capabilities, they are still expensive and some consider them fragile.
