Arsenal and Liverpool are holding a significant advantage in their bid to sign striker Rodrygo, with Real Madrid reportedly ready to part ways with the Brazilian star this summer.
Rodrygo, 24, is a highly skilled player and was once expected to become a mainstay at the Bernabeu, but has recently fallen out of favour.
At the recent FIFA Club World Cup, he only started in the opening match against Al Hilal and then only came on as a substitute in the next two matches, and was not even used in the semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain.
According to AS (Spain), head coach Xabi Alonso is planning to clean up the squad, with Rodrygo at the top of the list of 5 players who could be sold. This is considered a positive signal for the teams pursuing the Brazilian striker, notably Arsenal and Liverpool, two leading representatives in the Premier League.
Arsenal have been linked with Rodrygo since the beginning of the summer. Coach Mikel Arteta also hinted that the Gunners have not completed their shopping process despite recruiting Viktor Gyokeres and Noni Madueke. However, to recruit Rodrygo, Arsenal may have to sell some attacking players such as Gabriel Jesus (interested in Flamengo), Reiss Nelson (linked to Fulham) or even Leandro Trossard.
On Liverpool's side, manager Arne Slot is said to admire Rodrygo and wants to bring him to Anfield to strengthen his flanks. However, the Merseyside team is also focusing on the deal to recruit Alexander Isak from Newcastle, in the context of preparing to sell Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich.
Meanwhile, both PSG and Tottenham are also monitoring the situation, but the competition is lower than Arsenal and Liverpool.
Another factor that makes the Rodrygo deal possible is that Real Madrid have reduced their asking price. They had previously valued the player at €90m (around £76.8m). However, according to AS, Los Blancos are now willing to consider offers lower than that.
Although Rodrygo's contract with Real Madrid is still valid until 2028, if the situation does not improve, he will leave Bernabeu this summer. The opportunity is opening up for both Arsenal and Liverpool - teams willing to spend big to serve the ambition of winning the championship next season.
With his versatility and pace, Rodrygo would be a quality signing for any team. Will Arsenal or Liverpool win the race? The answer will be revealed in the coming weeks.
