Every Independence Day, September 2, the poetic Kien Giang River in Le Thuy Commune (Quang Tri), the hometown of General Vo Nguyen Giap, becomes the stage for a special festival: traditional boat racing. This is not only a sport , but has become a long-standing cultural feature, deeply imprinted in the memories and pride of the people here.
From early morning, both banks of Kien Giang were filled with flags, the sound of drums, gongs and cheers echoed throughout the river. The colorful racing boats raced along, to the enthusiastic cheers of tens of thousands of spectators. Each stroke of the oar contained an indomitable spirit, a desire to rise up, demonstrating the strength of the community as well as the love for the homeland.
The boat racing festival therefore not only brings a jubilant and dramatic atmosphere but also affirms the cultural identity and tradition of solidarity of the people of Le Thuy. For tourists, this is an unforgettable experience; for the people, it is a source of pride and a way to preserve the traditional cultural values of the General’s homeland.

The boat racing festival will gather the strongest boats of the villages. After the exciting qualifying rounds, the boats that make it to the finals will be held on the occasion of Independence Day. The teams will compete in the qualifying round and be divided into 2 groups A and B to compete. With their spirit of "winning", right after the starting gun sounded, the racers tried their best to move their boat forward. The women's rowing section was no slouch either, the girls tried their best to row the boat. This effort is shown in every stroke of the oar. On the banks, people crowded the riverbanks, in the best positions to watch the boat race during the holiday.
