Activision launches "illusion" against cheating players

According to Engadget , Activision has employed a series of new tactics against cheaters in Call of Duty , ranging from making them unable to see their targets, to disarming them.

The latest anti-cheat measure is one of the first steps that game developers at Activision are taking, aiming to combat hackers who are targeting Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2.0 with cheating programs, such as wall hacks.

How it works: When Activision's Ricochet anti-cheat systems detect or suspect a player is cheating, a "hallucination" feature is immediately deployed to disorient the hacker. What's notable about the feature is that each "hallucination" is a clone of a real player in the match. The "hallucination" is able to move, look, and interact exactly like a real player, and the cheater is trapped.

The Ricochet team says it will be difficult for players using the hack to tell the difference between the "illusion" and the real player. The "illusion" will emit the same type of hidden information that cheaters often get from legitimate players through cheat tools. The feature will also be activated when in close contact with a player suspected of cheating, and if they react, they will be detected.

On the other hand, Ricochet removed another anti-cheat feature called Quicksand, which would have slowed down or immobilized cheaters. The company promised to update it in the future, but it's currently disabled.
