80 years of VNA: Accompanying the country and fostering Vietnam-Laos friendship

The General Director of the Lao News Agency affirmed that VNA is a reliable source of strategic news in the region, and at the same time a bridge connecting the great friendship and special solidarity between the Vietnamese and Lao peoples.

Vietnam News Agency (VNA) has affirmed its solid position as a pioneering national news agency and a reliable strategic source of regional and international news.

This was the comment of General Director of the Lao News Agency (KPL) Vannasin Simmavong when interviewed by VNA reporters in Vientiane on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of VNA's founding (September 15, 1945 - September 15, 2025).

According to the General Director of KPL, over the past 80 years, VNA has affirmed its solid position as an official press agency, a pioneer on the ideological and political front, accompanying the revolutionary cause of Vietnam.

From the first difficult days, the team of reporters and journalists of VNA has been present on all fronts, steadfastly reporting and filming to promptly convey the breath of the country.

Today, VNA is not only an honest "reporter" of national history, but also a reliable source of strategic information, highly appreciated by friends in the region and the world .

Mr. Vannasin Simmavong affirmed that throughout its development process, VNA has excellently performed its task of providing accurate, clear, fast and continuous information, contributing to propagating the Party's guidelines, policies and the State's laws, while promoting socio -economic development and enhancing Vietnam's image and prestige in the international arena.

For the international press, VNA's news, images and videos are always important sources of information, with high reliability.

Mr. Vannasin Simmavong emphasized that VNA and KPL have a close and long-term cooperative relationship, demonstrating the great friendship, special relationship and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, two States and peoples of the two countries.

Currently, KPL is using hundreds of news, articles, photos and videos provided by VNA every month. VNA's sources have significantly improved the quality of KPL's content and images, while demonstrating the close connection and mutual support between the two national news agencies.

Not only a companion in press cooperation, VNA is also an important “information bridge” between the two nations. According to the General Director of KPL, the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Laos and Vietnam is an invaluable asset, a decisive factor in all victories of each country’s revolution.

In that relationship, the cooperation between VNA and KPL is always a beautiful symbol, a bright spot in international press cooperation, contributing to strengthening the loyal and steadfast solidarity between the two nations.

VNA has promptly and vividly reflected the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, States and peoples, from high-level visits to cultural, economic, educational and defense exchange activities.

These are important pieces that contribute to strengthening the loyal and pure solidarity between Vietnam and Laos, while spreading the message of exemplary relations in the region and the world.

Not only in bilateral relations, VNA also affirms its prominent role in international press forums, especially in the Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA).

Established in 1961 at the initiative of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), OANA is a cooperation forum of major news agencies in the region to promote the exchange of information and experiences.

Over the years, VNA has actively participated and made many important contributions to promoting press cooperation, narrowing the media gap, and enhancing mutual understanding between countries.

With its increasingly high prestige and position, VNA has been elected to the OANA Executive Board many times, including for the 2025-2028 term. This is clear evidence of the trust of international friends in Vietnam's national news agency.

In the digital age, journalism faces many opportunities but also many challenges. Mr. Vannasin Simmavong highly appreciated VNA’s efforts in adapting flexibly to the rapid development of information technology, communications and social networks.

After 80 years of establishment and development, VNA has become one of the leading news and press agencies in the region, a vanguard force on the ideological and cultural front, and a bridge of friendship between Vietnam and friends around the world, as well as between Laos and Vietnam.

The achievements of VNA are not only the pride of Vietnam's revolutionary press, but also a vivid testament to the power of information, solidarity and international cooperation.
