On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025) and the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the Vietnam News Agency (September 15, 1945 - September 15, 2025), the VNA Resident Office in Algiers interviewed Mr. Bounnah Liazid, Deputy General Director of the Algerian News Agency (APS).
Mr. Bounnah sent his warm congratulations to the leaders, staff, reporters and editors of VNA on this important event, and affirmed that APS always values the multi-faceted cooperation relationship with VNA, from delegation exchanges, training, to sharing experiences and information products.
According to him, one of the unforgettable milestones in the relationship between the two agencies was the tragic event in 1974, when a number of Vietnamese and Algerian journalists died in a plane crash.
“To commemorate, we have erected a monument near the APS headquarters. It is a profound testament to the solidarity and friendship between the two peoples,” he stressed.
Regarding the significance of cooperation, the Deputy General Director of APS said that the relationship between the two companies has contributed to ensuring the flow of official and objective information, especially during sensitive periods.
APS provides Vietnamese friends with reliable information about Algeria, its government , and the African region; and considers VNA an accurate source of information about Vietnam and the Asian region. In many cases, this cooperation helps both sides prevent and refute fake news.
In the context of digital transformation, APS identifies modernization as an inevitable direction. The agency is implementing many digitalization projects, from file editing to multimedia platform development.
APS currently publishes its online video bulletin in Arabic and Tamazight, and is preparing to expand to five other popular languages including English, French, Russian, Chinese, and Spanish.
Mr. Bounnah affirmed: “APS has enough foundation to cooperate with VNA, creating modern information products while still preserving the traditional values of the two countries.”
Assessing the role of VNA, Mr. Bounnah said that the agency's outstanding feature is to become an important bridge, providing official and reliable information to the press and Algerian people about Vietnam and Asia.
He emphasized that in the near future, APS and VNA need to promote bilateral cooperation, reflecting each country's views and stances at international forums, thereby strengthening friendship and common values.
Looking to the future, APS leaders said that national news agencies, including APS and VNA, need to continue to play the role of “special foreign channels” by providing accurate information that reflects the political commitment between the two countries.
Mr. Bounnah emphasized: “The press contributes to protecting the country’s highest interests through official news products, reports, and images. This is also the responsibility and mission of national news agencies.”
At the end of the exchange, the Deputy General Director of APS expressed his hope that press cooperation between the two agencies will continue to be strengthened, especially in the context of the world facing many new media challenges./.
