Artificial intelligence is becoming a trusted advisor and, in many cases, the first voice consumers turn to. Nearly 60% of consumers say they have used AI to help them make a purchase, according to a study by the University of Virginia.
According to recent consumer surveys conducted by online shopping experience company Bloomreach on the impact of AI on consumer behavior, nearly half trust AI more than a friend when choosing an outfit.
“ Consumers are increasingly transferring the mental burden of choice to AI, while still retaining the final say,” said Professor Luca Cian, Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia.
This shift is shrinking the traditional customer journey. With nearly 77% of users saying AI helps them make decisions faster, old marketing channels are no longer really effective."
Consumers rely on AI to make purchasing decisions.
AI is supposed to not force users to adopt something completely new - it improves familiar habits. In particular, AI helps eliminate choice overload and increases confidence in decision making.
“Our research shows that people trust AI more in real-world purchases, but still prefer human recommendations when shopping for emotionally charged products,” added Professor Luca Cian.
Brands are not only trying to win over consumers, they are also trying to convince AI systems to recommend products.
AI in commerce today is present visually from consulting chatbots, product recommendation systems, customer data management... Especially for small and medium enterprises (SMEs), the application of AI becomes flexible and brings outstanding growth efficiency.
In addition to cutting operational costs, AI is also well-suited for customer service, according to Bloomreach. 36% of business professionals say the biggest benefit of AI today is the ability to provide round-the-clock customer service. Nearly half of professionals believe AI will be able to handle most customer service needs on its own.
