4 workers burned while repairing electricity at underground cable line

On May 9, information from Cho Ray Hospital said that on the morning of May 8, the Emergency Department of this unit received 4 patients with severe burns while repairing electricity at an underground cable line on Duong Bach Mai Street, District 8, Ho Chi Minh City. Taking medical history, the patients said that while repairing the electricity, there was an unexpected short circuit, explosion and burns.

Dr. Ngo Duc Hiep, Head of the Burn - Plastic Surgery Department, Cho Ray Hospital, said that of the four patients, male patient LHT (28 years old, residing in District 8, Ho Chi Minh City) was the most seriously injured, admitted to the emergency room with second and third degree burns all over his body, including 80% burns to his head, chest, abdomen, limbs, and eyes.

At the Emergency Department, the patient was treated with pain relief, IV fluids, tetanus prophylaxis, blood tests, CT scan of the head, chest and abdomen, eye examination to wash out foreign objects and transferred to the Burn - Surgery - Plastic Surgery Department for continued treatment.

"The patient suffered 38% second-degree burns all over his body, second- and third-degree burns to both eyes, and conjunctival foreign bodies in both eyes. The patient is currently stable, but the prognosis is still difficult," said Dr. Duc Hiep.

Medical staff take care of a severely burned patient being monitored and treated at the Burn - Surgery - Plastic Surgery Department, Cho Ray Hospital.

The remaining 3 patients include male patient PAH (46 years old, residing in District 8, Ho Chi Minh City) who was hospitalized with 2nd degree burns, 2% burns on the head and face; patient NVL (46 years old, residing in Binh Chanh District, Ho Chi Minh City) with 2nd degree burns on his right ear, 3% burns on both hands and patient LQT (46 years old, residing in Tay Ninh Province) with 1st and 2nd degree burns on his left hand, 3% burns on his left ankle.

At the Emergency Department of Cho Ray Hospital, the 3 patients were quickly treated with pain relief, tetanus vaccination, and transferred to the Burn Department. These 3 patients have now been discharged from the hospital.
