In the mid-size sport scooter segment in Vietnam, Honda and Yamaha are still the two giants holding the majority of market share. If Honda made its mark with the Air Blade, a model that has become a familiar choice for the majority of urban users, Yamaha is gradually breaking through with a series of products with breakthroughs in design and technology. After the XMAX 300 model made a splash in the maxi-scooter segment, Yamaha continues to consolidate its strength by upgrading the popular sport scooter Yamaha NVX 2025.

As an explorer who often travels to neighboring provinces on weekends, I need a vehicle that is powerful enough to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, yet flexible enough to commute to work every day. After more than 2 weeks of using the Yamaha NVX 2025, I realized that this is a vehicle that not only serves the need for transportation, but also brings "sportiness" to every turn of the throttle.
Impressive design, masculine and not afraid to stand out
At first glance, the Yamaha NVX 2025 gives a sporty feel, a vehicle that makes you want to hit the road immediately. With LED projector headlights shaped like an ancient warrior's helmet, creating a powerful front end. The LED daytime running strip increases recognition, especially at night. The fairing is made more angular and muscular than the previous version, helping to increase the visual and aerodynamic effects of the vehicle.

The advantage when the driver brakes suddenly, similar to large displacement motorbikes - what impressed me was the neat rear end, but still maintained a strong appearance. The LED taillights and turn signals are now integrated above the fender, adding the ESS function, the turn signals will flash to warn, a very practical feature, especially when traveling long distances or moving at high speeds.
When placed next to the Honda Air Blade 160, it is easy to see that the Yamaha NVX 2025 is superior in terms of "appearance". The body width is larger, the low center of gravity creates a feeling of solidity. For those who like sporty scooters and like to be different, the NVX is a vehicle that is not afraid to "attract all eyes".
The driving feeling makes young people "fascinated"
The most commendable thing about NVX 2025 is that for the first time Yamaha has equipped the YECVT electronic transmission system on a popular scooter line. This technology, which used to only appear on high-end scooters, has now appeared on the SP and GP versions of NVX 2025.

This system allows users to choose two driving modes. The first is T-mode for moving in the city, because when increasing the throttle in this mode, it will bring a smooth feeling, smooth response, reducing the jerking phenomenon when turning the throttle slowly. As for S-mode, it brings a sportier driving feeling with high throttle sensitivity, suitable for long trips or the distance to the suburbs after a day of work.
Regarding the engine, NVX 2025 still uses a 155cc Blue Core engine, liquid-cooled, integrated with VVA technology. The engine produces 15.3 horsepower and a maximum torque of 14.2 Nm, very impressive numbers in the popular scooter segment.
My favorite feature is the Y-Shift feature, a form of “virtual upshift and downshift” that allows the driver to actively adjust the engine braking force. I had the opportunity to test the Yamaha NVX on the long road from Hanoi to Mai Chau – Hoa Binh (now in Phu Tho province), with two people. The first impression is the feeling of overtaking extremely decisively and quickly, with just a slight twist of the throttle, the car confidently jumped up and escaped the long lines of cars crawling up the hill. The credit goes to the Y-Shift feature, which allows simulating downshifting, helping the engine maintain strong traction and respond accurately when accelerating or overtaking quickly.

On winding downhill sections, actively using the engine's braking force instead of having to continuously brake gives a feeling of better control and is clearly safer. The engine responds smoothly, evenly, without harshness, and is abundant, even when the vehicle is carrying a heavy load and climbing continuously. The front fork system is upgraded with a 30mm inner tube for a feeling of firm cornering, without shaking or tilting like other popular scooters. Combined with ABS brakes and TCS traction control system, the vehicle handles stably even on slippery, rocky roads, which are a specialty of the Northwest mountain roads.
The most impressive amenities and technology in the segment
Although it is a sports scooter, the Yamaha NVX 2025 still focuses on the convenience factor, which is very important to Vietnamese users. The useful point of the Yamaha scooter model is the 24.5-liter trunk, enough for me to put a full-face helmet, a jacket, gloves and a small travel accessory bag. The trunk space can even hold a camera backpack, a small tripod and many small personal items inside. In the front, there is a left-side storage compartment with a lid, a small detail but very useful when you need to store your wallet, phone or pack of cigarettes while waiting for the red light.

Another big plus is the 4.2-inch TFT screen, integrated with a light sensor, which can adjust the display layout, displaying information clearly even in bright sunlight. The new interface is smoother and supports Y-connect connection to smartphones. Personally, I like the vehicle location and engine error reporting features the most, which are extremely useful when going on long tours. In addition, Y-connect can also display call notifications, messages, maintenance reminders, and look up technical specifications, which is a plus for a vehicle for long trips.
Slight price increase but "worth the money"
Yamaha NVX 2025 is distributed with 3 versions: Standard: 56.6 million VND, SP (high-end): 68 million VND, GP (special racing sticker): 69 million VND.
Compared to the old version, the two high-end versions have a slight price increase of 1-2 million VND. However, with the addition of a series of features such as YECVT, Y-Shift, TFT screen, dual driving mode, this increase is completely reasonable.

Compared to the Honda Air Blade 160 (priced from 56 to 58 million VND), the NVX is slightly more expensive but is superior in technology, equipment, and sporty driving feel. Compared to the Honda SH, which is a high-end scooter, the NVX has many features that the SH does not have, such as optional driving modes, Y-Shift, or the ability to adjust the screen interface. Obviously, not many people take a scooter like the SH on a long-distance trip, because the Honda model was born only for city driving, not suitable for long-distance trips like the NVX.
Finally, who is this car for?
Yamaha NVX 2025 is not for the majority, but it is very suitable for those who know what they need. This is not simply a sporty scooter to help young people "go to work in the morning on the street, return to the suburbs in the afternoon", but it also helps those who are passionate about "traveling", love speed, like personality and are not afraid to be different, NVX 2025 is an extremely worthy choice to consider.

A car under 70 million, but equipped with equipment usually only found on large displacement motorcycles, from Y-Shift, ABS, TCS to TFT screen and smartphone connection system. Obviously, Yamaha NVX 2025 is not simply a machine that serves exactly what the driver needs, which is strength when accelerating, smoothness when moving in the city, stability when going downhill, and enough amenities to accompany on any long journey.
And when we have this vehicle as our companion, why don't we pack our bags and head straight to the Northwest on the weekend? Up in the morning, up in the mountains, and in the afternoon, we're in Hanoi. A vehicle that helps us both go to work every day and travel a few hundred kilometers on the weekend is something that not every scooter can do. But the Yamaha NVX 2025 can do it.
