In the first three rounds of V.League 2024/25, striker Nguyen Xuan Son could not play because he was waiting to complete the registration procedure as a Vietnamese player of foreign origin. When he returned, the striker born in 1997 played a total of 8 matches for Nam Dinh before suffering a serious injury and having to sit out the rest of the season.
Despite only playing 8 matches, Xuan Son is still the player with the most goals for Nam Dinh in V.League 2024/25 up to now. Notably, he only needed 3 matches to score 7 goals. The Brazilian striker scored a hat-trick in a 4-1 win over Binh Duong , scored a double against Da Nang in a 5-0 win and added two more goals in a 4-1 win over SLNA.
In the remaining 5 matches, Xuan Son did not score. Those were the confrontations with Hanoi Police (lost 0-3), HAGL (drawn 0-0), Hai Phong (won 2-1), Quang Nam (won 1-0) and The Cong Viettel (lost 0-1).
Although he has not maintained a consistent scoring performance, with only three explosive matches, Xuan Son has still surpassed all other strikers of the team in the past 25 rounds of the season. Following Xuan Son is Ly Cong Hoang Anh with 6 goals, Brenner with 5 goals, Mpande with 4 goals, and Van Vi and Van Toan with 3 goals each.
These numbers show the great influence of Xuan Son on Nam Dinh's attacking system, despite his absence from the middle of the season. Xuan Son's long-term injury forced coach Vu Hong Viet to quickly rebuild the attack. However, thanks to his ability to flexibly manage from the coaching bench, Nam Dinh still maintained a stable playing style and won the championship convincingly.
