Gratitude

The house of Mrs. Huynh Thi Mai - wife of the Hero of the People's Armed Forces, Police Colonel Ha Lan (1926 - 2013) in Tam Anh commune was presented by the Public Security Culture and Arts Magazine. Mrs. Mai is now 100 years old, has no children or grandchildren, so the house has not been repaired and is now in disrepair.

Grasping information from the base, Tam Thanh Border Guard Station (under the Da Nang City Border Guard Command) visited and surveyed the living conditions of Mr. Mai to calculate appropriate support plans.

The unit assigned officers and soldiers to repaint the altar, replace the damaged roof, clean the house, and redecorate the certificates of merit, medals, and badges. At the same time, they cleaned and rearranged the items in the house to make it more neat and convenient for daily life.

Mr. Mai emotionally said: "His (Colonel Ha Lan - PV) altar is now clean, beautiful, and solemn as new. Thank you very much, soldiers."

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Minh Vuong, Political Commissar of Tam Thanh Border Post, shared that Colonel Ha Lan held many key positions in the People's Public Security force and was a pioneer in building a revolutionary base in Tra My during the resistance war against the US.

It is not only the pride of the family and locality but also a shining example in the armed forces for today's generation to learn from and follow.

"Renovating the altar and taking care of Colonel Ha Lan's family home is not only a responsibility, but also a deep gratitude for his contributions and sacrifices in the revolutionary cause," said Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Minh Vuong.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Minh Vuong added that on the occasion of July 27 this year, officers and soldiers of the unit contributed to repainting 3 houses for relatives of heroic martyrs and people with revolutionary contributions and renovating the living space for a wounded soldier. The cost of the project was contributed by soldiers and mobilized from local benefactors.

In early July 2025, the house of Mrs. Ngo Thi Hien - wife of martyr Nguyen Trung, in Phu Truong village, Tam My commune was rebuilt. The family received 80 million VND in support from policies to eliminate temporary houses for people with meritorious services and martyrs' relatives of Nui Thanh district and Quang Nam province (old).

In order to speed up the handover on July 27, Tam My Commune Youth Union mobilized dozens of union members and young people to support the workdays of dismantling old houses and transporting construction materials.

Ms. Tran Thi Nhon, Secretary of the Tam My Commune Youth Union, said that when the house was basically completed, the unit contacted the family to support painting materials. At the same time, the unit regularly monitored the progress and prepared youth volunteers to support the commune to "reach the finish line" in carrying out the task of eliminating temporary houses.

In recent weeks, the city's Youth Union at all levels has actively implemented many gratitude activities to celebrate the 78th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27, 1947 - July 27, 2025), in which many units focused on taking care of the homes of policy families.

Typical examples include the Hoi An Tay Ward Youth Union repainting the church of Heroic Vietnamese Mother Nguyen Thi Nhung (in An Bang block); the Tam Xuan Commune Youth Union cleaning the house and taking care of the garden of Heroic Vietnamese Mother Nguyen Thi Thu (90 years old, in Bich An village)...

Mr. Le Cong Hung, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the city, Secretary of the Da Nang City Youth Union shared: “The youth of the whole city have mobilized social resources, working days of union members and young people to coordinate in eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses for families with preferential policies.

Along with that, activities of house renovation, painting, and donating essential household items were also carried out simultaneously, contributing to improving living conditions for hundreds of meritorious households.

These practical tasks not only show deep gratitude, but also contribute to nurturing revolutionary ideals and a sense of social responsibility in each member and youth of the city, while strongly spreading the message of humanity in the community."
