Vu Thi Trang follows Thuy Linh into round 2 of the world tournament

(Dan Tri) - Vu Thi Trang is the second player of the Vietnamese delegation to win the first round of the women's singles at the 2025 World Badminton Championship taking place in Paris (France).

While Nguyen Thuy Linh had to spend 44 minutes defeating the world's 10th ranked Thai player, Ratchanok Intanon, in the first round of the 2025 World Badminton Championships, Vu Thi Trang (world rank 172) took less than 30 minutes to enter the second round when she convincingly defeated the Ukrainian player, Yevheniia Kantemyr (world rank 127) in the match that took place on August 26.

In fact, in set 1, Vu Thi Trang encountered many difficulties against Yevheniia Kantemyr's persistent and daring play as both sides continuously chased the score. At the time when the score was balanced at 20-20, Vu Thi Trang showed her mettle to score 2 points in a row and won with a score of 22-20.

Gaining the advantage in the first set helped Vu Thi Trang play confidently and completely dominate Yevheniia Kantemyr in set 2, when she continuously scored points and won with a difference of 21-8, thereby winning a ticket to the second round.

Vu Thi Trang's next opponent is expected to be Chinese 14th seed Gao Fang Jie.

Notably, while the Vietnamese female players performed impressively, the male players Le Duc Phat and Nguyen Hai Dang did not perform well and were quickly eliminated in the first round.

In the match on August 25, Le Duc Phat lost 1-2 to Julien Carraggi (Belgium). On the evening of August 26, Nguyen Hai Dang also lost 0-2 to Alwi Farhan (Indonesia).

However, in the doubles event, the Vietnamese pair Nguyen Dinh Hoang and Tran Dinh Manh also won the first round with a score of 2-0 (22-20; 21-16) against the Brazilian representatives Izak Batalha and Matheus Voigt on August 26.

In round 2, Nguyen Dinh Hoang and Tran Dinh Manh will face the 16th seeds of Chinese Taipei, Lee Jhe Huei and Yang Po Hsuan.
