Vietnam Today: “Information window” for the world to understand, feel and connect with Vietnam

On August 22 in Hanoi, Vietnam Television (VTV) launched a national foreign television channel called Vietnam Today - Vietnam's first international television channel broadcasting in English. Vietnam Today will officially go on air from September 7, 2025, marking an important step forward in the foreign communication strategy and promoting Vietnam's image in the international arena.

Vietnam Today was established under Decision No. 747/QD-TTg dated April 11, 2025 of the Prime Minister , with the task of providing national foreign television services. The channel broadcasts 24/7 in English, and applies modern technology to provide multilingual subtitles, suitable for each country and territory.

Vietnam Today targets a wide range of global audiences: from the international community interested in the situation and development of Vietnam, politicians , policy makers, scholars, research experts to investors, businesses looking for business opportunities, or international tourists wishing to explore Vietnam as a destination. In addition, the channel is also for those who love culture, art, cuisine and tourism, wanting to learn about a Vietnam that is both traditional and modern.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Television Do Duc Hoang emphasized that in the context of a rapidly changing world with many intertwined challenges and opportunities, conveying the image of Vietnam to the international community in a correct, sufficient, timely and profound manner is an urgent task. Therefore, the birth of Vietnam Today has many strategic meanings.

First of all, more than just a television channel, Vietnam Today will become an “information window” for the world to understand, feel and connect with Vietnam; where international friends can fully and accurately access a peaceful, stable, creative, dynamic and comprehensively integrated Vietnam.

The channel is built on three core principles: Official information - Sharp content - Creative communication. Vietnam Today's digital content programs and products are invested in quality in both content and form, meeting the tastes of international audiences, while demonstrating the country's multidimensional and multi-disciplinary nature.

Vietnam Today will become a connecting platform to promote the national brand and image to the world, contributing to expanding international cooperation, creating a bridge between Vietnam and the global community. Thereby affirming the country's position and prestige in the international arena.

Mr. Do Duc Hoang hopes that Vietnam Today will receive close cooperation from ministries, departments, branches, localities, domestic and international press agencies, and the companionship of influential figures to jointly exploit, produce and develop modern and attractive content.

“No matter how carefully prepared a new TV channel is, it certainly cannot fully meet the expectations of the audience. Therefore, we hope to receive support, constructive and frank comments from leaders at all levels, local ministries, colleagues and especially from domestic and foreign audiences to further improve, towards building a truly attractive and useful foreign TV channel,” said Mr. Do Duc Hoang.

Vietnam Today's programs are diverse, meeting the needs of accessing many different fields:

In the news section, Vietnam Today has Newsline broadcast continuously throughout the day, updating Vietnamese and world news with 10 comprehensive news bulletins.

In the analysis section, programs such as Vietnam & Vietnam 360, Global Insight or The Point provide in-depth perspectives on policy, economics, diplomacy and strategic issues.

The cultural and social section stands out with programs such as Culture Mosaic, Inside Asia, Vibes of Vietnam, or special reports on cuisine and heritage such as Street Food, Taste of Vietnam, Heritage Journey, Amazing Vietnam.

The fields of education, science and environment are also focused on with programs such as Tech Horizon, Pathways to Wellbeing, Echoes of the Wild or Speak Like a Local - teaching Vietnamese to foreigners through cultural experiences.

In addition, art, music and entertainment programs such as Tune Box or Showtime help Vietnam Today become a creative bridge, promoting Vietnamese talents to the world.

Vietnam Today is broadcast on many domestic and international platforms. In Vietnam, the channel is broadcast on the national digital terrestrial television system, cable television services VTVCab, SCTV, DTH satellite digital television, and OTT applications of Vietnam Today, VTVgo, FPT, VieOn, AVG, Clip TV.

Abroad, the channel is available on VTVgo's OTT app and Vietnam Today's app; Toober's OTT app in America and Europe; the digital terrestrial television broadcasting system in Laos, and the OTT platforms of Unitel (Laos), Metfone (Cambodia) and Mytel (Myanmar).

From 2026, Vietnam Television will continue to work with international partners to expand coverage in key areas, in many flexible forms such as terrestrial television, satellite, IPTV, OTT or program exchange.
