Over the past 80 years, under the leadership of the Party, our people have fought steadfastly, achieved great victories, and continued to write glorious pages of history. With deep pride, the entire Party, people, and army continue to be determined to firmly defend the achievements of the revolution, and join hands to build an increasingly prosperous and happy country.

Continue the glorious history

The August Revolution succeeded, on September 2, 1945 at the historic Ba Dinh Square, on behalf of the provisional government, President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence, solemnly declaring to the people and the whole world : "Vietnam has the right to enjoy freedom and independence and in fact has become a free and independent country. The entire Vietnamese people are determined to devote all their spirit and strength, their lives and property to maintain that freedom and independence."

Over the past 80 years, fulfilling that sacred oath, the entire Vietnamese people have sacrificed blood, effort and intelligence to maintain the achievements and promote the values of the August Revolution, maintain national independence, and bring freedom and happiness to the people.

Accordingly, right after the August Revolution, although the Vietnamese revolution was facing a "life-threatening" situation, with internal and external enemies threatening and difficulties piling up, in just a short time, the Party, the State and all our people created miracles: Successfully holding the General Election nationwide, electing the National Assembly, establishing the Government, promulgating the Constitution, building and consolidating the government from the central to local levels; consolidating and building the people's armed forces; expanding the great national unity bloc; building a new economy , new culture, and new life.

When the French colonialists returned to invade our country once again, the entire Vietnamese people rose up to “die for the survival of the Fatherland”, carrying out a long-term, comprehensive resistance war, relying mainly on their own strength, with the firm belief that “the resistance will definitely win”! Our entire Party, people and army united as one, creating an invincible force, achieving glorious victories, the pinnacle of which was the historic Dien Bien Phu Campaign that resounded throughout the five continents and shook the world.

Having just emerged from the 9-year resistance war against French colonialism, our nation had to enter the fight against the invasion war of American imperialism. Faced with that great challenge, under the wise leadership of our Party and President Ho Chi Minh's call "Nothing is more precious than independence and freedom", the whole country joined forces to fight and defeat the American invaders. After a long and heroic struggle, our people won a glorious victory with the General Offensive and Uprising in the Spring of 1975, the peak of which was the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign. The South was completely liberated, and the country was reunited.

After the Great Victory in the Spring of 1975, the country entered a new era: the era of peace and unification, the whole country moving towards socialism. Our entire Party, people and army focused their intelligence and efforts to heal the wounds of war, build a new life, and carry out the task of building and defending the socialist Fatherland of Vietnam.

However, in the early years after reunification, Vietnam had to face many difficulties and challenges. It had to overcome the severe consequences of war, while fighting to maintain every inch of the sacred land of the Fatherland, protecting independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. At the same time, it had to fulfill its noble international obligations to the Cambodian people; while being surrounded and embargoed, it had to continue to explore and test the path to building socialism. Along with the objective difficulties, there were also subjective limitations, causing the socio-economic situation to fall into crisis.

Responding to the urgent needs of the country, the 6th National Congress (1986) of the Party initiated the renovation process.

Achieve great achievements

With the efforts of the entire Party and people, up to now, after nearly 40 years of implementing the renovation process, our country has achieved great achievements.

- Rapid economic growth : The country has emerged from underdevelopment and the economy is growing rapidly. For many consecutive years, Vietnam has maintained a stable GDP growth rate of 6-7% per year on average, despite major fluctuations in the global economy. Even in challenging times such as the 2008 financial crisis or the COVID-19 pandemic, the Vietnamese economy has demonstrated its ability to recover quickly. By the end of 2024, the GDP size at current prices will reach 476.3 billion USD, making the country one of the fastest growing economies in the region.

Export turnover regularly grows by double digits. In 2024, total export and import turnover reached over 786 billion USD, with a trade surplus of 24.77 billion USD, the 9th consecutive year of trade surplus, contributing significantly to GDP, while bringing Vietnamese products to the international market.

Vietnam has also become an attractive destination for foreign investors. As of May 31, 2025, the country has 43,346 valid foreign direct investment projects with a total registered capital of 517.14 billion USD; of which, realized capital reached nearly 331.46 billion USD (equal to 64.1% of total registered capital). These figures show the international community's confidence in the stable, transparent investment environment and development prospects of the Vietnamese economy.

In particular, tourism will become a key economic sector, contributing significantly to GDP and creating jobs for millions of workers. In 2024, international visitors to Vietnam will reach 17.5 million; in the first 7 months of 2025, this number reached 12.2 million - a record high, demonstrating the strong attraction and increasing position of Vietnam on the global tourism map.

- Cultural and social development, improving the quality of life : Along with economic growth, Vietnam has achieved remarkable progress in human development and ensuring social security. The policies of the Party and State have helped improve the quality of life, ensure fairness and create development opportunities for all classes of people.

Vietnam has successfully implemented sustainable poverty reduction programs, bringing the multidimensional poverty rate (including the rate of poor and near-poor households) down to 4.06% by 2024. Along with that, the social insurance system, policies to support people with disabilities, women, children, and the elderly have also been strongly implemented, contributing to creating a more equitable society, with development opportunities for everyone.

In the health sector, Vietnam has implemented many strategies to protect public health, reduce mortality and morbidity, and promote disease prevention and control. The universal health insurance system has been increasingly expanded, with more than 94.2% of the population participating. Vietnam's health sector has achieved many remarkable achievements with advanced medical techniques such as organ transplantation, cancer treatment, remote endoscopic surgery, etc. These advances have not only helped save millions of patients but also helped Vietnam's health care approach the regional and world medical level.

Along with health, education is a priority area for strong reform. Vietnam has implemented many policies to ensure that all children have the opportunity to study, while promoting international integration in education. Recently, the Politburo decided to exempt all tuition fees for students from kindergarten to high school nationwide. This policy not only reduces the financial burden on families but also affirms the State's determination to build a fair, comprehensive education system for the future generations of the country.

Vietnam has also made great strides in protecting the rights and enhancing the status of women. Thanks to that, Vietnamese women today not only play an important role in the family but also contribute positively to the socio-economic development of the country. Children's rights are also given special attention, especially the right to study, develop and live in a safe and healthy environment.

In the cultural field, Vietnam has achieved remarkable achievements in preserving and promoting traditional values. Many works and tangible and intangible cultural heritages such as temples, pagodas, folk festivals, Quan Ho singing, Ca Tru singing, Cai Luong, water puppetry, etc. have been preserved, restored and widely promoted. Many heritages have been recognized by UNESCO, contributing to raising public awareness and becoming a resource for sustainable tourism development. In addition, cultural industries such as cinema, music, fashion, etc. have also constantly innovated and reached international standards, with many works winning major awards and bearing strong Vietnamese identity.

- Developing science and technology, promoting digital transformation : Along with cultural development, science and technology and digital transformation have also made great strides, becoming an important driving force for the country's development. Vietnam has built a basic science and technology foundation and achieved many achievements in fields such as information technology, electronics, and telecommunications. Many large technology enterprises such as FPT, Viettel, VNPT, VNG... have reached out to the international market, contributing to affirming Vietnam's digital industry position on the regional and global map.

In particular, digital transformation has become an inevitable trend and one of the Government's top priorities in the national development strategy. Digital technology is widely applied in socio-economic fields, from production, healthcare, education to public administration, helping to optimize processes, improve efficiency and transparency in management. Digital transformation not only creates momentum for the development of the digital economy but also contributes to bringing Vietnam faster into the digital age.

- International integration is increasingly deep : To date, Vietnam has established diplomatic relations with 194 countries in the world, including 13 comprehensive strategic partners, many strategic partners and comprehensive partners. At the same time, Vietnam maintains trade relations with more than 200 countries, signing over 100 trade agreements, including CPTPP, EVFTA, RCEP, contributing to promoting growth, boosting import and export and attracting foreign direct investment (FDI).

On the multilateral level, Vietnam is currently a member of more than 70 important international organizations and forums, such as the United Nations, ASEAN, APEC and WTO... Vietnam's outstanding successes in organizing major international conferences such as APEC, ASEM and fulfilling many important international responsibilities such as: Non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, rotating ASEAN Chair, host of the ASEM Summit, APEC Summit, World Economic Forum on ASEAN... have demonstrated Vietnam's proactive, positive and responsible role in common regional and world issues; at the same time, affirming Vietnam's increasingly enhanced position and prestige in the international arena.
