What does Vietnam say about the China-Cambodia joint military exercise?

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang affirmed that cooperation between countries needs to actively contribute to peace and stability, in accordance with international law and the United Nations Charter.

At a regular press conference on May 15, in response to a request for comment on the joint Golden Dragon exercise between China and Cambodia, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pham Thu Hang said:

"We believe that cooperation between countries needs to actively contribute to peace , security, stability and prosperity in the region as well as in the world, in accordance with international practice, on the basis of international law and the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter."

According to AFP, the Golden Dragon exercise is the largest ever between China and Cambodia, with nearly 900 Chinese soldiers and more than 1,300 Cambodian soldiers participating, lasting from May 14 to May 28.

Participating in the exercise are armored vehicles, helicopters, warships, unmanned reconnaissance aircraft, combat robot dogs...

Cambodia said the annual exercise is to "develop deeper ties and cooperation" between the two militaries.

According to Colonel Zhang Xiaogang, spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of National Defense , this year's exercise will play a positive role in "strengthening practical cooperation and promoting the building of a China-Cambodia community with a shared future in the new era."

The first Golden Dragon exercise was reportedly held in 2016. By early 2017, Cambodia had canceled a similar joint exercise called Angkor Sentinel, which had been held for the previous seven years with US forces.

The Golden Dragon 2025 exercise was held after Chinese President Xi Jinping's two-day visit to Cambodia in April to strengthen relations between the two countries.

The Changbaishan landing ship, a large Chinese naval vessel, docked at Ream naval base earlier this week, along with military equipment for the exercise.
