Inheriting her father's passion for vọng cổ, as a child, author Trần Ngọc Hòa loved to sing and had a talent for composing traditional songs. After nearly 10 years working in the cultural sector and actively participating in local cultural and artistic activities, she once temporarily stopped composing for a long time because she was busy with business. However, in 2014, the passion for composing was rekindled, she returned to composing, continuing to contribute to the local cultural and artistic movement.
“Perhaps my fate with art has not ended. Thanks to the encouragement of friends and relatives, and especially the desire to show gratitude to those who have fallen for the Fatherland, and the desire to share the pain and loss with those who remain, I continue to write,” author Tran Ngoc Hoa shared.
Author Tran Ngoc Hoa often appears at the closing ceremonies of literary and artistic writing competitions with a simple, everyday appearance. Ms. Hoa confided: “I am not a professional writer or poet. I am just a cosmetics seller at the town market. When there are no customers, I take the opportunity to write down the stories I read and hear about soldiers, heroic Vietnamese mothers, people searching for martyrs’ remains… That is how I express my gratitude to those who sacrificed for the country.”
She turned those stories into poems, vọng cổ songs, short stories, cải lương pieces or radio stories with a rustic, familiar voice, full of Southern colors. Images of boats, rivers, wharves, ripe rice fields, storks, cajuput forests… appear familiar and full of emotion. That is why her friends and colleagues affectionately call her “The soul of poetry in the hustle and bustle of the market”.
Overcoming the hustle and bustle of everyday life, author Tran Ngoc Hoa still devotes all her love to literature and art. She composes many genres such as poetry, vọng cổ songs, short stories, memoirs, radio scripts, cải lương plays, etc. Of these, poetry is the genre she composes most often and many of her songs have been set to music.
Her works impress with their simplicity, depth, emotion, and humanity. No matter what genre she writes in, she always expresses her own unique color from lyrics to images, making readers and listeners easily moved and sympathetic.
“I think a good work must be able to catch the breath of life, touching the hearts of readers with simplicity and sincerity. Every poem, vọng cổ song or short story I write contains emotions and the desire to convey a meaningful message. My greatest happiness is when my work is well received and sympathized with by the audience,” Ms. Hoa expressed.
Over the past 10 years, author Tran Ngoc Hoa has composed more than 300 poems, more than 350 vọng cổ songs and many short stories, memoirs, cải lương pieces... and won nearly 150 awards in competitions. Most recently, her work “Gốc quê” won first prize in a literary and artistic composition contest praising the land and people of Kien Giang with the theme “Pride of the land and sea of Kien Giang ”... |
